Waking up in a sweat, I crawled from the bed in the silken fabrics of my night gown. I scampered to the light drawing window, placing my hands on the edges. With all my strength, I pushed it open, causing a draft to ruffle the skirt of my gown. I inhaled slowly, enjoying the breath of fresh air I was receiving.
Assuming I was the first one up, I jogged into the kitchen to brew myself a cup of coffee to help me through this day. Part of me wanted to saunter down the roads of Holmes Chapel and renew myself to all of its wonders that I once could enjoy.
I leaned my elbow against the counter, holding my hand to my head. Damn these headaches. Surely I needed some medicine to numb the pain. Letting out a groan, I walked over to the coffee maker, pulling the mug from under the spout. I took a long sip, allowing the caffeine to rocket throughout me.
As I danced over to the table, I began to hum what I remembered as a Taylor Swift song. The lyrics were a blur, but the melody seemed to stay with me.
"Romeo take me... somewhere we can be alone," I pieced together, lifting up a noticable white sheet of stationary.
Dearest Elizabeth,
Unable to reschedule my doctor's appointment, I was rushed into town. If you are up before I get home, please do not leave the house unless someone is looking after you. I know you are bright, but I wouldn't want you getting lost. See you in a little bit, flower.
Much Love, Aunt Dianna
I sighed to myself. Exploring seems to be out of the question.
"Why me?" I murmur quietly. I flop backwards on the sofa, blowing out the air in my lungs, falling into deep thought.
Why did I have to lose my memory? Why was it me that had to be in the snowstorm? Why did I have to lose Harry, the only person outside my family that I am sure I love? Or did I lose him...?
After thinking for what seemed like forever, a knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.
"Did you forget to leave the door unlocked, Auntie?" I asked quietly, chuckling to myself. I blinked my eyes, realizing I was still in my nightwear. Gently, I twisted the doorknob to pull open the door, revealing who I would have least expected.
"Hello," Harry laughed lowly, assessing what I was wearing. "I, um, brought you these." Holding out a bouquet of flowers, he offered a half smile. I took the flowers in my arms, smiling back.
"Thank you." I looked down at the flowers of pinks, purples, and yellows. "They're really beautiful," I praised, welcoming him into the house. Why was he here? And was it pure coincidence that he had remembered my favorite colors?
"I was just wondering if you'd like to accompany me on a walk throughout town," Harry stated, holding his hands behind his back, standing straight. "Would you?" He inquired.
"I would love to... just as soon as I get dressed." Smiling sincerly, I sway on my heels. "Be right back."
I jog quickly into my room, pulling on a pair of black waist high shorts and a blue top. Once again, I feel self conscious as I return to the parlor. Harry's eyes widen.
"You look... woah." He seemed breathless, and I came to hope that 'woah' had a positive meaning, not a negative. "Beautiful," He concluded, putting it into words.
"Thank you," I said softly, taking the flowers he had given me minutes earlier and placing them in the vase at the center of the table. Then, I wrote a note explaining my whereabouts. "Now let's go. Sorry for the wait."
Harry watched me intently as I made my way to the door. Extending his hand, he shook his head. "It's worth it." Cheeky as ever, I concluded. A smile plastered across my face, and for the first time in awhile, I realized that it was genuine. "Let's go," He added as I took his arm, leading me out the door and into the sunny atmosphere.
