I looked up when I heard Talia running towards us.
"Hey guys," she called.
There was a jumble of hellos back to her. All of us enjoyed her company, although we enjoy all of our friends company. I was glad for that. When I was in high school, some of my friends didn't like hanging out with my other friends because of the difference in likes and dislikes, and when we did hang out all together, there would be a fight with me in the middle. I eventually got so fed up with it I kinda just stopped hanging out with all of them. I guess college is different.
I leaned over to look past Talia, knowing Nico would be there. When I saw, him we locked eyes for a moment before he turned his head away, blushing.
I chuckled knowing he had been looking at me and Liam. He claims that he doesn't care about not having a soulmate but the amount of time that he spends staring at me and Liam proves he does. It doesn't bother me, in fact I find it quite funny, but I feel kinda bad for him. Not just because he hasn't found his soulmate, but also because of how everyone teases him. If someone teased me like that, I probably wouldn't be here today.
When Nico finally made it to the group, we had already started making plans for tonight.
"Took you long enough!" Talia cried.
We all laughed at her exasperated tone. Out of all of us Talia was definitely the most dramatic.
"So," Liam said from beneath me, "you able to hang to tonight?"
Nico shifted his weight from one foot to the other. Rubbing his neck he mumbled, "sorry guys, I can't tonight."
Talia whined. "Come on Nico, you do this every year and no one knows why! You can at least tell us!"
Taya hit her arm. "Don't pry, Tal!" She chided.
"That's right. We all have our secrets, if Nico doesn't want to tell us that's his choice." I said.
Although all of us wanted to know why Nico always backed out of hanging out one day a year, we all knew to respect his privacy. He would tell us when he feels like it.

Liam moved his head, causing mine to take a little fall. He laughed as I sat stunned, contemplating what had just happened.
"Did I move to fast for you?" He joked.
"Yeah, yeah you did," I mumbled sarcastically.
Liam's smile faded as he said, "So I guess we have to reschedule then?"
Nico's face went from embarrassed to exasperated.
"What? No! You don't have to cancel because of me!" He yelled.
"Nico, you don't understand," Taya said calmly "if you're not going to be there, there is no point in going."
"I have an idea!" Liam gasped, "how about we go to Nico's house since he can't go out!"
I saw Nico contemplating the idea for a moment. All of us watched him in anticipation.
His eyes darted to each faces. The seconds dragged on, each feeling like a minutes.
Eventually he responded.
Slowly he said, "well I guess it'll be fine," at the end he mumbled a small "I hope."
I seemed to be the only one that heard that though, because everyone else was busy yelling in excitement.
I looked at Nico, questioning about the last bit of his sentence. When I finally got his attention, he waved his hand in dismissal as he mouthed 'it's fine'.
I gave him one last look before accepting it.
I felt a hand grab mine and looked over to see a doe eyed Liam. His eyes twinkled with excitement. I gave him a soft smile which made his beautiful grin go into a full blown smile.
I want to keep him happy, but I also want to know why Nico is hesitant to let us over.
