“So, where exactly are you taking me?” I ask. Knowing if my parents were still alive, they would kill me from being absent from school. Especially english. My strong point.

“We are just driving.” He said calmly. But I started to panic a little. I was stuck in a car. With a really hot guy.

“Back to school now. I just needed to get you away from the dark one. He’s after you Faye.” I felt a shiver run up my spine with those words. Why would the “dark one” be after me? What’s so special about me? I feel my phone go off and reach into my pocket.

Melody: Faye! Where the hell are you? You’re backpack was still in english. Sam and I are worried. Please answer!

Me: Mel, I’m fine. I’m with Xavier. Take my backpack to lunch for me. We’ll be back soon.

Sam: Faye! Get your little butt back to school. Now! Where are you? Where’d you go?

I just ignored Sam’s text, knowing Melody would show my reply to him. I turned and looked at Xavier. Dark mystery almost dripping out of his eyes.

“So.... How did you know who I was? How did you know he was after me?”

“You really don’t remember? Do you? Melody and Sam were right.” He replied nonchalantly.

“Right about what? What are you talking about?!” I was almost seriously jumping out of my seat. Anxious to hear the answer.

“We will tell you when the time is right.” His eyes stayed on the road.

Melody: Lunch is starting. You’ll be here shortly. Right?

Me: Of course. See you soon.

Melody: Yeah...

We arrived back at school and Melody and Sam looked pissed.

“What the hell Vanna?!” Melody stormed right up to me. Making a bigger scene than needed. The ENTIRE lunch room was looking at us.

“I just went for a little drive. I’ll explain later. Okay?” I whisper, trying to pull her off to the side, to make less of a scene. But she yanked her wrist out of my hand. And glared at me. Sam was standing off to the side. Usually he would be right by her side, either yelling at me as well, or calming her down. I opened my mouth to ask, but he shook his head and gave me that look. The one that said ‘I’ll explain later’. Then he walked away. Now, that was odd. Melody looked at him, and burst into tears. Then ran to the girls bathroom.

I felt Xavier’s hand tighten around my arm. I looked up at him. Wow, he was tall! He was looking straight ahead. I followed his gaze, and saw the figure. Again! What the heck?! He leaned over and whispered in my ear.

“Go talk to Melody. Now.” I nodded and walked away. Reluctantly, but I did. As I walked in the bathroom, I heard the faint cries that I used to hear all the time. The ones that Melody thought she hid so well. But she never really did. The ones before Sam, when a different jerk had hurt her. When her brother had died. When she moved in with me because her parents had disappeared. And now, this. Whatever this was.

“Mel? Are you alright?” I asked quietly. I heard sniffling as she murmured something inaudible. I heard the lock of the bathroom stall unlock, and she ran out.

“Vanna, we broke up.” She sobbed into my shoulder. I sighed. And patted her back. No wonder Sam walked away earlier.  I pulled her in for a tighter hug. The bathroom door squeaked and all the lights went out. My head snapped up, my eyes not yet adjusted to the dark all I saw was a shady silhouette at the doorway. Melody’s body still convulsing in my arms as she cried. Freezing to my spot, I held her closer.

“Mel, do you see him?” She looked up and shook her head in confusion.

“See who?”

“HIm! By the door! Hes just like, floating there.”

“Vanna, I don’t see anyone.....” She hesitantly backed away from me, but just then, the lights went back on, and the shadow guy was gone. What the heck?

“Mel?”

“Yeah?”

“How do you know Xavier?”

“I can’t tell you. Not right now.” She shook her head, wiped her tears and walked out of the bathroom.
