It was about mid September when it happened. I had been going to school for about a month when I returned home as usual. I started my homework and finished three hours later as usual. And after dinner my siblings, Courtney, Chester, and Nick crowded around our only PC to play minecraft as usual.
But, unlike the usual, my mother was sitting on the living room floor, listening to sad songs, and sobbing her eyes out. I knew not to ask what was wrong because my mother was crabby when she was caught crying.
We continued on with our game. We had just found a treasurous ravine when my mother's raspy voice rang out.
"Courtney, Chester, Nick, and Layla. Come in here."
We slowly made our way, terrified of what happened. I thought that my grandpa or granny had died.
"We're being evicted." My mother stared at here lap.
"What's that mean?" Four-year-old-Nick chirped.
"We're being kicked out?" My shaky voice confirmed.
"Where are we moving to?" Courtney said, trying to sound like she wasn't alarmed.
"T-the b-budget inn." She started crying again. "But, Layla, I talked to Cam's mom. You get to live with them for a while."
Mixed emotions bubbled within me. Happiness, sadness, fear, anger, disbelief, and just plain shocked.
"W-when do we have to be out?" Silent tears of pain streaking down my cheeks.
"The end of this month." She whispered.
"Ha, that's funny," Chester spoke up sarcastically, "Tiger died around that time and Dad went to jail around that time."
"I hate October." I mumbled.
