I walked the halls as a guild leader one last time, thinking of all the memories I'd made and preparing to leave them all behind. It was an odd feeling. Soon, I heard footsteps running up behind me.
"Gil, what are you doing here? It's not much of a send-off party when the main guest isn't there." Said Micheal.
"I'm just getting one last look around before I leave in the morning," I replied.
"Well, hurry up; Bernard is out there talking up a storm about you. He's calling you a chicken because you refuse to face him in combat one last time."
"He's calling who a chicken?!" I yelled, dashing back outside into all the noise.
The band is playing loudly, people are dancing and laughing, there's drunken dancing going on in the corner of the mess hall, and in the middle of it all is Bernard, surrounded by a group of people.
"That louse of a man, Gilgamesh, secluded himself in the depths of the guild hall, trying to avoid me! Oh yes, it's true! He wakes up in cold sweats night after night, reliving the painful memories of him falling to his knees after taking just one of my punches." He shouted drunkenly.
The people roared with laughter, telling him he was full of it.
"You mean to tell me that a scrawny mage like you has bested Gilgamesh, the king of men? The same man who's slain eleven dragons on his own?
"Gilgamesh, the king of men?!" Laughed Bernard, "If he is the king of men, then I, the Great Bernard, am his God!"
"Oh? Is that so? Then, if you're my God, smite me in front of these people once more." I said, grabbing Bernard's shoulder.
He screamed and backed away from me. "Gil, when did you? Surely you know I'm just playing! I do not mean anything; I'm merely just trying to keep the people entertained as the main guest stepped away."
"I see. Thank you for holding down the fort then."
Bernard and the crowd all walked away, disappearing into the mass of people. Michael came next to me, handing me a drink.
We watched as everyone danced and laughed together.
"You know, when you first came to this guild, nobody expected much from you; at least I didn't, but now here we are having a party in your name," Michael said.
I laughed softly.
"yeah... I didn't expect to get so connected with everyone. Honestly, I came in using this place as a stepping stone." I replied.
"Huh? A stepping stone to what, Gil?"
"You don't need to concern yourself with that. Anyway, have you seen Solomon? I need to make sure he's all packed to head out tomorrow morning."
"Solomon's in his room, you know how he feels about parties," Michael stated.
I told Michael I was going to check on him and enjoy the party for me because I'd had enough of it.
"What!? You're leaving again?! How many times do I have to say this party is for you? What am I supposed to tell the people that ask me about you?" Michael questioned.
