Chapter 1: Overtaken

Emma

“Your not chicken, are you Emma?” Taunted the hot guy that was enticing me to forget my fear and jump into the unknown.

I bit my bottom lip and looked at Parker. He was wading in the ocean with his dark brown hair plastered to his tan skin. His sea blue eyes were checking me out in my new pink and multicolored paint splattered bikini.

The night seeped in around us. A bright, full moon shined down upon the ocean that shimmered. The waves were not bad. Especially since it was about to rain.

My black hair flowed with the wind as I looked back at Parker with my emerald green eyes. I took a deep breath and stepped on the shore line. The edge of the cold waves flew over my feet and caressed them and coaxed me to walk farther.

I jumped back with a gasp as a memory flashed in my mind. People, mother, a wave, and then nothing. Parker noticed my reaction and began walking toward me. Swallowing my fear, I continued my journey to Parker.

The rain began to sprinkle, when I reached him. Tears began to drip down my face. He opened his arms wide as I swam into his embrace. There was nothing in this world that would make me let go.

Parker nuzzled the side of my face and quietly whispered in my ear, “Emma, its alright now. Nothing will get you while I'm around.”

I closed my eyes and leaned on his shirtless, broad shoulder, “I know.” His body was warm and soft. My legs were wrapped around his waist. Even though we weren't officially dating yet, we both knew it was going to happen. So we didn't even try to be shy around each other.

“I don't have fond memories of the ocean.” I whispered into his chest. His arms squeezed tighter around my bare waist.

“I know.” He looked down at me as I looked up at him.

I felt his hand brush the tears on my face away. He began to lean his head closer to mine. His full lips almost brushed mine. I could felt the heat coming off of him. For a minute, I forgot where I was and I just wanted him. I gripped him tighter and I began to lean my head closer to him. The moon served as a spot light, silhouetting us from the rest of the world. Waves began to crash into us now, but we just got closer and closer. I closed my eyes, waiting for enjoyment.

I can't breathe. I, seriously, can not breathe! Water rushed into my mouth, burning my throat and nostrils with salt. Parker was thrown on top of me. He let go of my sides so that he could quickly regain his composure and save me, but I was already overwhelmed by another fierce wave.

Water and salt filled my mouth, nose, and throat. Everything began to burn as my body kept getting scrapped against the ruff sand on the ocean floor. I never got a chance to fully stand as wave upon wave crashed into me.

When I finally tried to actually get on my feet and come up for air, hard rain pelted my face and already stinging eyes. A few more waves came bundling on top of me and swallowed me whole. I was being sucked into the deep, scary abyss of water.

Even though my throat was sore and aching from all the salt I was gulping, I tried to scream Parker's name through all the calamity. Pain surged through my vocal cords. Then another wave crashed into me and I was drowned by black.

I flung out my arms and dug my nails into the sand which only dissolved into the water shortly after. The ocean used me as a mop as it brushed me ashore and sucked me back into its vast body. Finally, I pushed my arms against the hard sand that I was being flung against and tried to jump on my feet. I slipped and fell back into the water.

My head slammed into the hard ocean sand. I couldn't move. My body was immobilized. I began to breathe the ocean. The current began to carry me out into the darkness. My lungs stung! I wanted to cry out. It was never in my plan to die from my worst fear. How will mom feel about this, when I see her in Heaven? I will Mrs. Freshno react to me not being in the orphanage anymore? Will Parker save me before I die? Is Parker even ok?

Suddenly, blackness began to cover my eyes. I could no longer feel the ocean floor. My body and my insides still raged with the harsh burning. I wanted to give up. It was a battle I could not win. This was why I was afraid of the ocean all those years, and because of a stupid hot boy, I gave my life to this stupid death trap. I sunk lower and lower. The ocean consumed me and I let the blackness overtake me. Good bye Parker...
