Evie
Monday came way to quickly and I still hadn't seen or spoken too Oscar. I'd done what Sam had suggested and left a voicemail on his phone with the ultimatum and he hadn't called or messaged me since so I guess I didn't know if we were together or not. Trying my hardest not to think about it, I threw myself into my studies harder than ever. Mia was a great help as she tutored me in what I needed help with as well as deal with her own studies. Thankfully she had calmed down since the first week had ended which meant that she was back to her perfectionist self which meant that I had my best friend back.
As for my other two friends, Sam and Charlie well I had easily avoided them both like the plague. After Sam's little declaration of loss of feelings for Charlie, I didn't know how to face either of them.
Running a little late for my third period, I quickly dashed from the toilets to my locker continuously looking at my watch. I didn't need a detention from being late so I grabbed everything I needed all but slammed my locker and began sprinting down the hall. As I rounded the corner I collided hard with someone and I all but bounced off them. Falling straight to the ground I saw that I sent them flying as well.
Groaning with annoyance, I quickly grabbed my things before asking, "I'm so sorry. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine princess." My eyes widened as I looked over and saw Beau struggling to his feet. I froze like a deer in headlights and I didn't know how to react.
I heard rumours that he'd dropped out of school and that he was a drug addict or an alcoholic. I hadn't seen him the first week of school and I felt embarrassed to say I was looking for him after everything we went through last year. I still occasionally checked his Facebook page but apart from getting tagged in the odd club photo, he wasn't on much.
He looked horrible, he'd grown heavy stubble on his jaw that made him look rough and his eyes were surrounded by pools of purple shadows. His eyes look sunken in and his hair had grown out to horrible lengths.
I couldn't stop staring at him and didn't notice as he reached out a hand and helped me to my feet, picking up the remaining of my books.
"Yeah yeah, I know I look horrible." He cleared his throat and I smelt alcohol on his breath. So many some of the rumours are true.
"Christ Beau, what happened to you?" My heart ached to see him like this even though I know I shouldn't care but I did. How could anyone not care seeing someone they used to hold so deeply in their hearts go from good to worse?
His eyes burned for a moment with anger as he shook his head at me, "You. You happened to me." He spoke softly before walking past me to one of his classes.
My throat choked up and I breathed heavily as I waited for him to come back and say sorry and that he didn't mean it but in the pit of my stomach I knew he meant every word. And that made me feel sick to my stomach.
The rest of the day past like a blur and all I could hear was the gossip surrounding Beau's return. Rumours which I was naturally a part of thanks to someone listening in the corridors.
It was common knowledge that he had been kicked off the basketball team for not showing commitment to the team and this seemed to make him some sort of target for everyone to talk shit about him. It was amazing how quickly the tides would turn and he was suddenly public enemy number one.
By lunch time, Lachlan was telling me how the whole basketball team had shunned him, even the new recruits who normally wouldn't say anything. I could see Lachlan felt terrible for him as we watched Beau walk past us, not giving a glance. Not even Maria was giving him the time of day which was saying something.
