That morning after the fight that I wasn't even involved in, I'd woken up with a mild headache and thankfully my eye had come down. I'd iced it practically all night, almost giving myself ice burn at one point, but I didn't care. I hadn't seen mum yet but I didn't want to have to explain why I had a closed up eye.

I was able to cover the rest of the bruising with makeup and I got ready to go to work. Beau and I had been talking last night and I felt myself smile in the mirror as I remembered how we'd spoken to each other, both finally bringing down our walls and even towards the end, starting to flirt playfully with each other. I looked into the mirror and saw a girl with colour in her cheeks, a smile on her face and a spring in her step. Not just because she was talking to a boy, though. But because she was happy.

As I walked down the pathway to my car, I frowned when I saw a huge A3 envelope had been squashed into the opening of the mailbox. Shaking my head in annoyance, I pulled it out slowly hoping it didn't rip. The packaging felt heavy and thick, which immediately made me think it was something for Lachlan. Turning it over my eyes went wide as I dropped almost dropped everything I was holding in my arms.

Walking slowly to my car, each step measured, I placed my keys in my pocket my phone and purse in the car and my coffee on the top of my car. Taking a deep breath in, I gently pried the top of the envelope and once it was open I stopped for a moment.

This envelope would either say that I made it through to the audition or it would say that I wasn't good enough for Juilliard.

I pressed my fingers against the papers inside and swallowing all my nerves, I pulled it up my eyes scanning the words on the page.

Congratulations!

I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected as a finalist for Bachelor of Music at Juilliard and would like to formally invite you to audition...

That was all I needed to read.

"Mum!" I screamed at the top of my voice, "Mum! Mum!" I kept crying as I raced up the stairs and was sent flying to the floor by a distraught looking Lachlan who looked as though he had just rolled out of bed. He was wearing nothing but shorts and I didn't care. I jumped to my feet waving my acceptance letter around and jumped in his face.

"I got the audition!" I screamed and I watched as it took him five seconds to realise what this meant. His eyes went wide and a face splitting grin erupted on his face as he grabbed me spinning me around.

"Oh my god! Evie!" He shouted and mum came racing from her bedroom wrapping her robe around her body. She didn't look happy as she took in the scene in front of her. We still weren't speaking so it wasn't a surprised that she remained standoffish.

"What is going on here!" She snapped and I didn't care. Right now nothing was going to bring down my mood.

"Mum, I got the audition." I spoke in a simple tone, "I got the audition with Juilliard."

Suddenly a scream of joy exploded from my mother and I sighed happily as she wrapped me up in her arms. She started jumping and Lachlan, standing there like an idiot, wrapped his arms around the both of us as we jumped and screamed and cried. After we all calmed down, I raced back downstairs as my mother followed closely making promises of a special dinner tonight.

During work I couldn't keep the smile off my face and even when my boss came in, my smile never wavered. I had resolved with myself that I was only going to tell my friends and my family. I almost posted a status on Facebook when I realised that even though I got the audition, what if I didn't actually get in and then everyone would know. So I decided against it.
