Adele's POV
---------------
When I met Michael, he looked dead. His face looked like he was looking at endless nothing. I met him under a bridge. He was wearing a brown sweatshirt, blue jeans and black boots. He was smoking a cigarette, and his lips were chapped. I didn't think I was ever going to fall in love with a smoker and a guy that looks like a bum. My mother taught me that I needed to marry a handsome guy, with good education, and has money. But, he looked different. I was coming back from a party and I was fighting with my mother about my father. I was angry and I walked up to him and I asked, "Can I?" I was asking if I could have a cigarette. He looked at me, his pupils dilated and the smoke of the cigarette was circling the air. "Now- wouldn't your mother not like that?" He said jokingly, he probably thought I was 13 because I was short back then, I was actually 15. I rolled my eyes and he finally gave me one and lit one up for me. "What's your name?" I asked then I brought the cigarette to my lips. "Michael- what's yours?" He asked, he was still looking at me. "My name is Adele" I grinned as I shook his hand.
That day changed my life around for the better. I never had a boyfriend before and if my mother found out, I would be taken to my grave. Michael was adventurous, sweet and wise. That's what I liked about him, he didn't take advantage of me and he was fun to hang out with. Now, its the first week of June and when it comes around August, I'll have to go to college. I just realized, I should tell my mother about Michael.
He is the love of my life and I'm 18, I'm old enough to have a boyfriend. I know this sounds absurd, but I want to spend the rest of my life with him. Michael and I never told our parents about each other because my parents were strict about me having boyfriends and Michaels parents wanted him to stay at the house. Michael used to get suspended a lot and he used to smoke weed and did some minor crimes. Michael changed for the better and I was happy for him. He rarely smokes anymore, he sometimes smoke to reduce all the stress and he rarely goes to parties. I thought he was my ray of sunshine, he was really just cloud nine, I thought. I knew that now because there was a spark in our hearts, which was lurking into our souls, it wasn't just full of coal.
Currently, I was in my bedroom. "Adele-" My mom loudly said as she was bursting into my room, I quickly stood up. "Yes?" I replied as my voice cracked."Get down stairs immediately" my mother said intensely. I narrowed my eyebrows, confused as ever "Okay?" I said quietly. My mother than slowly walked down the stairs, sitting down on the kitchen table. I sighed, thoughts swirling around my head. I walked out of my room, closing the door behind me. I then walked deliberately down the stairs, still trying to figure out what was happening.
As I got closer and closer to the dining room table, I questioned myself. I trudged to the doorway of the dining room, "Come in Adele" My mother anxiously said as she looked at her hands, which were folded on her lap. I then quickly sat down across my mother, looking weirdly at her. My mother then pulled out an object from her hand- my phone. "Who the hell is Michael?" My mother furiously said as she demanded for an answer from me. I gasped, my heart racing faster than the speed of light and my palms were starting to sweat.
"He's just my friend" I nervously replied as I was beginning to get out of my chair. "You sit your little ass down my dear before I do something that you're not going to like" My mother calmly said as her eyes beamed at mines. I quickly sat down all the way, I gulped. "You've known this kid for 4 years now? Are you kidding me Adele Winter Bertram? When were you going to tell me about this?" My mother yelled as she slammed her hands on the table. "Mother- I love him- I was going to tell you sooner or later" I replied silently, trying to hold back the tears. "You know that you are not aloud to have a boyfriend of any kind until you moved out!" My mother sat up, grabbing my phone fiercely. "YOU ARE JUST LIKE YOUR SISTER!" My mother said louder as she paced around the room.
My vision wasn't clear because of the tears. "JUST BECAUSE YOU AND DAD DIDNT WORK DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CONTROL MY FEELINGS AND WHO I LOVE!" I yelled angrily as I stood up trying to leave the area. As I was about to leave, I felt a harsh burn on my arm, my mom was latched onto my arm. "How dare you bring up your pathetic father! and don't you ever say that again" She narrowed her eyebrows and she still held on to my arm. "LET GO, YOU'RE HURTING ME!" I screeched, then I felt a harsh bruising pain on my cheek. I put my hand on my cheek- my mother just slapped me.
"Now I know why Dad left your ass!" I continued aggressively as I got into my mothers face. "Yeah- he left me for a slut!" My mother yelled back as she let go of my arm and pointed her finger in my face. I felt a tear stream down my face and I quickly wiped it away, trying not to show weakness. "YOU'RE NOT EVEN MINE SO WHY DO I CARE!" my mother screamed and as soon as she said it, she regretted it. My heart dropped, "YOU'RE NOT EVEN MINE-", it kept replaying over and over in my head. I felt sick, I fell on the floor and curled up in a ball. My mother had her hand over her mouth and tears were streaming down her face. "..i'm.. not... yours?" I said as my voice croaked.
My mother sat on the floor, crying her crystal eyes out. "Your dad cheated on me with a woman- and the woman didn't want you so she gave you to your dad and I because she had a husband of her own" My mother explained silently. I can't even comprehend what was happening, is this a dream? I felt sick to my stomach. "Who is - the woman?" I asked as I was wiping away my tears.
