It all felt so surreal, as if it was all a figment of my imagination, yet I knew it wasn't. It was the same old Washington lodge - standing in front of me - from a year ago, when Beth and Hannah sadly went missing after our awful prank.
At the first sight of it when I arrived, I felt the urge to throw up right on the spot and regretted listening to Matt's advice about coming back up here; that dick wasn't even here yet.
Matt kept on pestering me that maybe this was Josh's weird way of wanting to get back together after our bitter breakup. He especially kept on pestering me about it when he ended up in a relationship with Emily, not wanting me to feel 'lonely' or some shit like that.
Why Josh invited me up here along with the others was beyond me, since inviting your ex back to where your only siblings went missing isn't exactly the ideal place to rekindle an old flame.
"Weird, isn't it?" Josh's familiar voice appearing out of nowhere scared the shit out of me, causing me to almost fall of the bottom front porch step I was standing on. Could you really blame me though? We were in the middle of the woods, for god's sake.
Luckily, mostly for him, he caught me in his hold before any serious damage could occur by wrapping an arm around my waist and holding me in place.
"Still as clumsy as ever, huh." He let out a friendly laugh, letting his fingers linger for a few moments on my hip before letting me go from his grip.
It was weird seeing him again, since the last time I saw him was in that video he sent out to all of us. Seeing him in person was a whole other story though. I could feel the palms of my hands getting a bit sweaty and my heart racing a bit just from standing in front of him.
"Josh." I softly greeted with a nod of my head, unsure of how else to go about it when we haven't spoken in months. After breaking up eight months ago, I never expected to see him again. I didn't plan on it at all, thinking that it would be a better idea not to think of him at all.
Yet here we were.
"Nice to see you too, Karina." Before I could react, he pulled me into a tight hug. It was oddly comforting, despite the fact that the last time we saw each other his touch wasn't as sweet as this - or sweet at all.
"I didn't think you'd invite me out here again." I softly admitted, before wrapping my own arms around his neck and resting my head on his shoulder. "Thought you hated me."
"What? No. I could never." He shot me a look as if the mere thought of that was insane once he pulled away from me by a few centimeters. "I've missed you actually."
"Oh." I was at loss for words. Maybe Matt was right and I just wasn't prepared on how to react for this. I mean, how do you even prepare for this?
I loved Josh, it never faded but I had to leave. I was scared for my life those last moments of the relationship. It felt as if he was going insane and I didn't know how to cope.
Josh shot me a sad smile before leaning down to rest his forehead on mine. "I'll make it up to you, alright." He whispered before Chris's voice interrupted the scene in front of me.
"Bro, you out here?" At the sight of us embracing, Chris looked over at both of us before smiling at Josh. "Oh, I didn't know I was interrupting something."
"We can talk about this later." Josh offered before letting go of me and heading towards the front door of the lodge. At the sight of me just standing there in place and contemplating my thoughts, he stopped and called after me. "You coming?"
"Yeah." I hurried over to him where he held his hand out to me. Hesitantly taking it, we walked inside together; luckily, everyone was too engrossed in their own moments to even notice us.
"I need a hot bath." Sam stated before walking up the stairs and heading towards the bathroom.
"I'll start up a fire." Josh announced to everyone, finally catching their attention and making them look over at us in confusion as we walked towards the fireplace with Josh pulling me along behind him.
I took a seat on the couch as I watched Josh crouch down in front of the fire place and start messing with it. I tried stifling my laughter as I watched him struggle, not even close to starting a fire.
I only looked up for a second before Ashley looked over at us and mouthed, 'Are you two together again?' To which I simply just shrugged, I really didn't know.
Josh was weird so I knew I'd never be able to get a clear answer from him about this. Did I even want to get back together with him?
I rested the side of my face on my palm as I tried to think it over. I couldn't deny that I had feelings for him, then I'd be a liar, but I was scared - of him.
"You look nice." Josh's voice pulled me out of my thoughts about him, not even realizing that I was looking over at him. "Especially when you're checking me out."
I rolled my eyes at him, before standing up to go over to him. Taking a seat next to him, crossing my legs, I narrowed my eyes at him before playfully pushing his shoulder.
"How are you holding up?" I reluctantly asked, afraid of the outcome of my stupid question. Josh could be unpredictable, something I loved and hated about him.
"Don't." It felt as if all signs of friendliness were gone from his voice as he put down the wooden stick he was messing with. "Don't bring that up."
"I'm sorry-" I started but didn't get to finish since his own words cut me off.
"No, it's fine." His smile found its way back to his face as he looked over at me and took a seat on the floor. "I just...I want us all to have a good time out here for them. You know?"
"Yeah." I nodded. "I know. I'm glad you're doing this."
"So, how was life after you left me?" The question was so abrupt, so random and far from the conversation we were having.
"Josh." I shifted uncomfortably, unsure that this was a good conversation topic for us; considering mix of emotions Josh must be feeling. "Don't be like that."
"It was just a friendly question." He shrugged before reaching back over for the stick in front of us. "No hostility in it whatsoever."
"I promise." He sighed at my lack of response, reaching out to take a hold of my hand and giving a reassuring squeeze. "I just want us to catch up."
"It was..." Is this the part where I come clean about having sex with one of his friends after we broke up or am I supposed to keep that to myself? "It was uneventful actually." I respond, deciding on the latter.
"Really?" Josh grinned before shaking his head in mock disbelief, his hand still on mine. "Yeah, life must've sucked without me."
"It really did." We both laughed as I scooted over closer to him. "It's nice to finally see you again."
Josh was silent for a moment before running his tongue over his lips and looking over at me with a serious look on his face. "I was hoping, maybe, this could help us too."
"Oh?" From the corner of my eye, I noticed Matt was here but his arm was around Mike? Wait, but not in a friendly way. "Shit."

This was kinda short, but I'm just trying to get the idea out first! I hope it was good-ish. Some of the lines and scenes won't be exactly like in the game so I hope you guys don't mind that but the plot won't be changed and Josh's character won't be either!
