A slight clicking sound caused Brian to whirl around. There was the spider and Brian breathed a sigh of relief. Despite it not having much of a personality, Brian had become good friends with the spider.

"Don't scare m..." The spider whacked his leg, shutting him up. Something was wrong. Silently the spider scuttled off, followed by a curious Brian, suspicious Wolf, and the dragon.

They hadn't gone far when they heard voices, murmurs and near-silent arguments, only able to be picked up by the hearing of a wolf, or, perhaps, one trained to listen with the patience and accuracy of one. "Hunters." Whispered Brian.

"Yes" replied the wolf, "They are getting bold, moving so far out here. No one else has ever come this far except you."

"Well, I didn't really have a choice, did I?" Brian whispered back.

"No, I suppose you didn't."

"If I can get close enough," mused Brian aloud, "I may be able to talk to Cohen or Abe."

"Ah, yes, your only human friends." Wolf shook his head, "But, no, we can't risk it. If one of them were to betray you..."

"They wouldn't!"

"You thought you were doing what was right when you went hunting for us, your friends may think the same way. They might capture you and kill us."

"No..." Brian started, but the wolf continued.

"They may capture you thinking they're doing you a favour. That one of us is controlling you or that the wilderness has gotton to your head."

Brian sat in silence, he knew it to be true, his friends may very well kill the mystics. Then an idea started forming.

"But I'm still alive, am I not?" This comment served only to collect confused glances from his comrades, so he explained. "They think you're just animals, they won't expect me to be alive and sane. But if I act just right, they may think I'm a survivor. What the heck, they might think I killed you guys myself! And if I can close enough to their leader..."

"Then you can take him out and get killed yourself." The wolf finished dryly, his overprotective spirit taking over.

"No, hunters are a group. If that jerk Dolan isn't still leading than most the hunters, even my friends, will be loyal to the leader. And if Dolan is still leading than most of the hunters will be loyal to him anyways. We may get them to surrender for their leader's life.

"Will not the leader be traveling at the front? It would be too risky."

"Not if I can talk to him, then he will more likely travel to the middle so we can talk without disturbance or fear of an ambush. But if I hold a knife to his throat and put him in front of me, then they can't shoot or they would shoot him."

"And the ones behind you?"

"That's where you come in," Brian said with a smile. His smile was repeated by both Wolf and Dragon. They laid out details quickly and without much argument. Their plan was ready.
