I want to thank anyone who made it to the end of my short Christmas story. I want to thank a few people before I get into details about why this story was made in the first place.
Bean for being there for me, putting up with me and my attitude and my petty little crushes. Bella for being the greatest cousin in the world and encouraging me to follow my dreams. Mom for putting up with me in general and letting me learn from my own mistakes while supporting my ambitions. Amerika for being a great friend and letting me fan girl about Twilight because everyone else is an asshole about it. Paige, my seventh grade teacher, for being my morning tea buddy and letting me vent about one of my late best friends. Black Cloud and Riley for being the best dogs in the world–I miss them both so much and hopefully I'll go back in the summer to visit them. Uncle Jason for agreeing to have me for Christmas. And Tracy Lewis for encouraging me to follow my dreams and for being an amazing mentor during the film workshop, I miss you and Lisa a lot!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, now that that's out of the way, I want to tell you how Lacey's Christmas journey came to be.
Originally, this story was supposed to be set in Fort St. James, Tachei or Benche, where a girl was meeting her family for the first time and going through a hard time after losing her newborn baby and fiancé in a car accident. But, I thought that was too depressing for a Christmas story, so I played around with the idea.
Instead of making the main character native, I opted for a white family in Prince George, British Columbia, not far from where the story was originally supposed to take place. Lacey, the main character, lost her boyfriend in a car accident, and her best friend was trying to help her love the holiday again. What wasn't supposed to be a Christmas love story spiralled into one when I brought Cameron into the picture and things with Brad went downhill.
I hope you all enjoyed my first Christmas story, and if you'd like to find my new pen name, DM me on Instagram (@ canadianchristmasbae) and I'll let you know.
Stay pretty, kitties.
