Dream
The clashing of swords is what woke me up that night. The sounds of footsteps is what told me that I was not hallucinating, that this was actually happening. Jumping from my bed, I ducked under my window in my small home, taking a quick peek through my damaged curtains. I could see fire, lots of fire, I could also hear the yells of people as they were killed or burned.
I scrambled away from the window in horror as I watched the flames burn one of my best friends house down the road, and sprinted to my parents room. Stumbling, I try to grasp the first thing to help me not slip in my blunder, which happens to be my door knob. Flinging the door open so hard it hits the wall, I sprint down the short and narrow hallway to my parents room.
Almost opening their door, I stop as I hear muffled screams from inside. From the bottom of the door I see people moving around and terror grasps me, my short frame freezing in the blind panic that has taken over my body.
The panic then turns to horror as I can see the door knob of my parents room start to turn, and I turn my back sprinting down the hallway where I came. Looking for an escape, I can hear the people behind me running after me. Skidding to a halt, I try to round the corner, only to feel a hand grab my hair as it flies widely.
Screaming the person holds me tight, wrapping their sweaty, rough hand around my mouth to shush my screaming. The person starts to drag me back towards the hallway where I came from. I hadn't noticed, but salty wet tears trailed down my cheeks, ending on this person's hand. I had started to kick wildly, trying to get out of this person's' grasp.
"Shut up!" He hissed, as my sobbing became loud. I tried to stop crying, to not make this guy mad, but I couldn't seem to stop.
"I said, Shut up!" He hissed again, taking his hand of my mouth to to slap me hard in the face. When he let go of me, a loud sob escaped my mouth, echoing through the house. He continued to struggle to drag me down the hallway when I heard another pair of steps, coming from my parents room. The footsteps got louder until they were almost behind me and the man.
"Trevor let go of her now." A calm voice stated as the man; Trevor, stopped struggling and let me go. I fell to the floor, in a heap, curling up into a ball. Wet salty tears continued to roll down my face as the other man bent towards me.
"Trevor, you go clean up the parents, I will take care of her." The man stated quietly and his companion grunted in response. The kinder man bent towards me and brushed a bit of my hair from my wet face.
"A-Are you g-going to k-k-kill me?" I asked, my voice giving out on the word of kill, remembering my parents. The man sat down next to me, throwing his arm casually on his knee, sitting in a comfortable position.
"Would you like that?" He asked, in a voice that had an underlying message to it. I swallowed loudly, as more tears graced my face. My terror slowly crept up into my throat and I felt like I was going to explode.
"N-No sir." I said shortly, my voice trembling. He nodded his head and clasped his hands together.
"Can I tell you a secret?" He asked. The shock must have shown on my face because the amused smile that lit up his face was so capturing. Nodding my head so vigorously It felt like it would fall off, he bent down to my ear.
"I am not part of this revolution. I am with you. Remember this young one, you are the chosen one. The birth mark on your shoulder means a lot more than you think, be brave and strong. Don't back down on what you believe.
Dream.
I shot up off my small dingy mattress, sweat was coating my matted hair it clung to me like a second skin as I looked around in wild fright. My panting could be hard around my small room as it echoed of the bare walls. This was all I was given when I joined the assassins guild. The words of the drea- no memory clung to me like a moth to a light.
