Gasping for air I sat at the edge of the bed as quickly as I could. My heart racing. Sweat dripping off my body. It's been awhile since I last dreamed. I could go months without dreaming and when I do I usually don't remember when I wake up. The difference this time is I was able to recall every moment of my dream. I stood up.

I remembered how the cries of the owls made me fall in agony. I remember the cold and how it penetrated my bones. Making them feel like they would crack by the slightest movement. Pain I had never experienced before. Even when I have trained for ongoing hours and being in the battlefield, the pain was uncomparable. Even in the midst of darkness and pain the glow from the amulet made me move. There was something about it that gave me strength even in my weakened state.

Before I developed a headache I tried to stop thinking about the dream. I walked towards the room's balcony and stepped outside and filled my lungs with fresh air. Marissa was already outside.

She was already being herself. Shouting orders to her pack. They had to train and I had to leave. I ran downstairs drenched in sweat from last nights dream, if you could call it a dream. Passing the main door and heading towards Marissa I noticed most of her pack had scattered into the forest. A few were still there but on high alert. I didn't find any distinct smells.

At first I thought they were just training but Marissas facial expression had changed from her commanding one to one of high alert.

" Whats going on Marissa"? I kept sniffing the air, but all I found was Earth, Marissas pack and the unique smell of an owl.

" More of those owls have been spotted since last night".

" They haven't done anything, they're just birds".

" I don't know Jayden, remember what Dad always said".

I always thought Jordan, Marissas Dad was too superstitious. He was always whining about the owl that always appeared around me. Threatening to kill and then burn it if it ever even came near his land. Luckily enough they never did. They sometimes disappeared for months, just to come back again. An unending cycle. Jordan always told us stories that they were evil. But they were always just that, stories.

" Do you really believe that Marissa, I mean I have wondered why they are always there when I look up but there must be an explanation besides evil ", I exclaimed.

Marissa sighed and rolled her eyes.

At that moment I saw as an owl was flying at high speed towards me. The owl didn't grab my attention, It was whatever he had around his neck. It glimmered in the sun, but I couldn't figure out what it was. My head started to spin.

I was able to see the owl coming closer but I felt so disoriented. As it was mere inches away I felt something ignite in me. I looked up just on time to crouch down missing the owl by inches. My dizziness went away.I stood up as quickly as my body let me. I turned to see the owl and it wasn't far away.

I looked at Marissa and noticed she was on the floor in pain. Her hands covering her head as if shielding whatever was hurting her. I ran towards her to try to help her out. As I grabbed her I looked around and noticed everyone else was also on the ground. The owl was flying back into the forest from where it came from and I saw that the furthest pack member get up. As the owl flew away from the pack they were able to get on their feet.

Marissa started to get up but they all still seemed weak.

"Kill it!" Marissa growled through her teeth.

I let Marissa go and she was on her knees. I ran as fast as I could after it. I lost sight of it but there was a very faint scent.

I had never been attacked by an owl before. Every time I thought they were like a good luck charm or even a guardian owl. They seemed harmless. I wanted to know why it had caused me to become dizzy. I heard Marissa just behind me.

I knew I was getting closer to the owl. I started to run faster until I saw its pure black feathers. I leaped into the air and caught its foot. I hit the ground but clutched its foot tighter. The black owl started to flap its wings angrily.

I heard a thud. Marissa was back on the floor. Something was also causing the rest of her pack to fall unto the ground, even in wolf form. Before I could help her out I had to first kill the owl.

As I tried to reach for its neck it launched at me in a quick movement. The owl bit my hand piercing my flesh. At the same time I felt a sharp pain on my back causing me to release the owl. A second owl was digging into my skin. I quickly turned and grabbed the owl by its neck. I wasted no time and twisted its neck. I turned into werewolf form and ran towards the black owl.

The owl was a few miles away. The scent guided my path. I ran through the trees. When the owl came into view I ran as fast as my hind legs could take me. A waft of the owls scent hit my face as I leaped into the air jumping higher than before. Acting faster this time I bit into the owls tender body. It screeched loudly hurting my ears. When we hit the ground I held his body with my paws. I bit into its stomach. I tasted the copper as I pulled back. Its intestines in my mouth. I felt its body go limp and I knew it was dead. I turned into human form. I remembered the glimmer around its neck. Observing its neck I noticed a necklace but it was covered in blood.

I reached for it but the owl started to disintegrate. Leaving behind what seemed like dirt instead of its body.

Grabbing the necklace that was now hidden under the dirt I flipped it around revealing an amulet that had a red stone and a gold band around it.

The same exact amulet I had dreamed.
