I froze, and in that moment, all I could think about was how much of an idiot I probably looked like right now.
His eyebrows creased together, and he let out a small chuckle which made my cheeks burn bright red.
"Here, let me help you pick these up." He said, bending down to grab the cups.
I nodded and knelt down with him reaching for each scattered cup and stacking them in my hands.
Grabbing the last cup, we both started to stretch up, when our foreheads collided. I winced and grabbed my head as he did the same, and when I looked at him, he smiled. I grinned back and stood, my heart fluttering.
Brad and Calvin looked over from the booth they decided to sit in from the corner. Calvin covered his mouth with this hand to hide his laugh. Brad just looked like he felt sorry for me. Yes, I'm aware I'm pathetic. Now look away creeps.
I set the cups on the down and he stacked his in mine. I involuntarily started to stare at him as he did, but tore my eyes away as soon as he noticed. What? I have way more than just a major crush on him, it's almost impossible not to look at something as flawless as he is.
I pushed my hair behind my ears and tried to get a hold of myself.
"So," I said, feeling socially awkward.
"So you work here?" He asked. Well duh. Why else would I be wearing the uniform?
Of course I didn't say that though. I was lucky if I managed to say anything next to him. After all I had only crushed on him for more than a decade.
"Yeah, I do. I only just started though."
"Oh, that's awesome," he commented.
"So... can I get you something?" I felt like I was gonna jump out of my own skin. He was making me feel so jittery. Wait, what's my last name again? Suddenly I felt like I didn't know anything.
"Oh, yeah. Can I get a kid's size of the banana flavor? With chocolate chips on top." I blinked.
"Wait, banana?"
He chuckled, putting his hands in his pocket. "Oh, not for me, I hate it. It's for my little sister. Why?"
I let myself crack a smile. "Oh, that's so nice of you. I didn't know you had a sister," I said as I started scooping the from the yellow bucket. Actually, not true. I knew everything about him. I know that he has a 5 year old sister, three guys cousins, 7 girl cousins, two lesbian aunts, and a 3 year old bulldog. You could say I've been practicing my Internet stalking skills, but that would be an understatement. "I only asked because Sha-" I turned, looking for him, but he wasn't there. Must've gone to the bathroom or something.
"Huh?" Dash said, leaning forward.
"Oh, nothing. Just that banana is my...friend's favorite flavor too." I could feel the embarrassment sliding over me like a dementor.
He nodded, smiling. I cringed as I piled on the chocolate chips and handed him the frozen yogurt. He handed me some cash and calculated the change. Why did I have to be so weird around other people? Especially the one I was in love with and used a picture of in an online website that generated what you and someone else's baby would look like?!?!
He turned to leave, but something stopped him. "Hey, I know this is a weird question, but..." He trailed off. Out of the corner of my eye, Shane reappeared from the bathroom.
Dash eyed Shane, and something flickered over his face. "Nah, I shouldn't. Thanks for the fro-yo, though," he started walking away.
"No! Wait!" I flailed my arms, running in front of the door to stop him from leaving like some sort of psychopath. "What did you want to ask? I promise it's not a weird question, whatever it is." What I didn't add was: the only thing weird here is my inability to act like a functioning human being. Seriously, there must be some other planet where abnormal people can live in socially-awkward peace. If there is, I could get on that.
