Chapter 7
When Kori left the room, Oscar looked away. He swallowed and thought of all the things that’d happened today at school. Then he looked outside the window. Today was a weird day.
He should be happy right now. He thought so before. But he’s not. Oscar was tired and a bit frustrated by these mixed feelings. Ever since he’d met Droplet, he’d caused more problems to his vacation. But whatever, he thought. It might not be so bad having someone new in the house.
He turned around and grabbed his house phone. Like a pro, he dialed his friend’s phone number. He waited for his friend to answer. At the last beep, Anthony picked up. “Hello?”
“Hey, dude. It’s Oscar. Got any plans tomorrow?”
“Uh… no, not really… Why?”
“Wanna go to the movies? I’ll ask Craig, and you can bring your girlfriend.” Oscar leaned in.
“Sweet! – Why this all of a sudden though, bro?”
“I wanna see that new movie, Immortals.” He lied as he pushed his bangs back.
“Oh,” Then it was quiet.
“So you going?” Oscar asked impatiently.
Finally, Anthony said, “Yeah. Sure.”
“Awesome! I’ll buy the tickets. We’ll meet at the Mission Valley Mall at three.”
“Alright, c’ya.” Then Anthony hung up. All Oscar could hear was the long beep. Then he slowly hung up. Then he finally got senses into himself. All he thought was, crap. What have I done?! Who’s going to look after Kori…?
…
“How do I look?” Droplet asked Kori as she swiftly turned around in the soft, white sleeping gown. Kori picked it out for Droplet. She noticed how much Droplet liked the color white. Perhaps it was her favorite color, or maybe it was the color or simplicity to her.
Kori clapped her hands together and smiled. “It looks great! It’s a perfect size for you, Droplet.”
“I love it.” Droplet concluded.
Then Kori looked away. “What time is it?” She looked around the room for a clock. Then she found on sitting on her aunt’s table. “What! It’s already 7 pm. That was fast!” She looked out at the window while lying on her stomach on her aunt’s bed. “It’s already dark…”
Droplet looked with her face of no emotion. Her soft pink lips make up her pale looking skin with sapphire eyes that defines everything. She was not human. At least, not entirely, because she was an angel.
“You don’t have school tomorrow so we can sleep as late as we want.” Kori said. She kicked her legs back and forth as she rested her head on the bed. Droplet was standing, still looking at the window.
…
Kori woke up from the sound of their neighbor, Mr. Bowman, mowing his lawn. It was early too. Kori thought to herself, who mows the lawn so early in the morning?
With force, she opened her eyes and winced. When she realized what time it was, it was only eight in the morning. Then she quickly, but quietly got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. She reminisced about what happened yesterday. She was quite excited to go buy clothes for Droplet, too. Once she looked at herself in the mirror, she decided it was a good day to put her hair up. She brushed her hair, her teeth, and changed into her casual clothes. She went with a nice green shirt with green shorts.
