I jumped slightly, quickly looking to my right.
Beside me lay Macey, her golden hair fanned out around her, and her head slightly tilted to the left, awaiting my answer. I looked in her eyes for a second, they were a vibrant green, full of life and shining in the moonlight. I tried to take in that she was actually there.
"Yeah... yeah they are" I said, still in shock and quite speechless. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same question" she said. I remember how quick witted she was.
"I have a bad case of insomnia, I think" I explained with a sigh, coming to the realisation to what my problem may be.
"Ah, you should get that checked out" She stated.
"Probably should" I said, looking back up at the sky. "Are you going to answer my question then?"
"I couldn't sleep either"
I don't know if it was my deep yearning for this girl -and the fact we were both lay together under the stars for the same reason- or that maybe the cigarettes have gone to my head, but I felt okay for the first time in a while. I felt relaxed and happy in that moment, lay there with her, breathing in fresh air and her perfume which smelt like rose petals.
After a few silent minutes, she spoke up.
"How's school?"
"Not great" I said bluntly.
"Remember when I used to tutor you for Maths?" I could almost hear the smirk on her face.
I remember that very well, in year 10 Macey used to come round to mine every Tuesday after school and 'tutor' me. We didn't normally get much done though in the terms of work, we used to just talk about what was on our minds and shared funny stories with each other.
"I do" I said, "Tuesdays were my favourite days"
"Same, because I got to spend time with my best friend"
"What happened..?" I accidentally blurted out to her.
"We just lost touch... didn't we" The sadness in her voice was clear. Was she missing me as much as I was missing her?
"Yeah... I miss us, you know?"
"I know" She replied.
I wanted to hear her say I miss you over and over again, like I'd like to say to her. But I know that wasn't true and I wasn't her idea of company now.
"Cider?" Macey handed me a can of raspberry cider with a smile.
"Thanks" I smiled back at her.
"So Harry..." It was nice to hear my name coming from her mouth again "Any girls on the scene?"
"Uh.. what?"
"You know, girlfriend? Hooked up with anyone recently?" She said playfully with a wink. We were sat up now, our legs crossed, facing each other, but making minimal eye contact.
That question took me by surprise a bit, and I let out a low chuckle oh, if she knew .
"No, actually" I told her with a small smile.
"What?!" She said loudly, making me jump. "A hot guy like you must have girls chasing him everywhere!"
My cheeks turned a shade of red at her statement.
"So, you haven't got a girlfriend?"
I took a sip of my drink.
"No"
"So.. not got with anyone at parties? Come on Harry we all know what a party animal you are!"
"I haven't really.. been to any" I said awkwardly. We used to love going out on Saturday nights, having a laugh and a drink at someone's house.
She looked shocked. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything.
"What, since we used to go all the time? You haven't been?"
I smiled as I found it funny how she kept repeating herself in disbelief. I could never get tired of her talking. "No, none"
"Bloody hell, Harry, what's wrong with you?"
I furrowed my eyebrows slightly.
"Nothing is wrong with me, Macey" I said confidently, as if I was telling myself it was true.
"Okay, okay" She said, holding her hands up in a defensive stance. She then took a sip from her can of cider and watched me, like she was trying to read my mind.
"Party, at mine, Saturday."
"What?"
"I'll have a party, you can come, I'll invite some of your friends. You're friends with Niall aren't you? and Louis? Oh, and Liam?"
I raised my eyebrows at her, how does she know my current friends? "I am yeah, how do you know I'm friends with them?"
"Well, you've been friends with Niall ever since we were little, obviously. Louis and Liam I just see around school with you a lot. They seem nice guys"
I nodded at her. I liked my friends. Louis was opinionated and sassy, and he had his eyebrow pierced and planning to get his first tattoo next year. Liam was intelligent and preppy, always handing his work in on time and getting straight A's. Niall had blonde hair which he always wore messy, but it looked great. He plays football for the school and is always at practice, and always slacks with his schoolwork. Then there's me, I keep to myself and I love music, although many don't know about that. We're a weird combination, but I think that's good, we balance eachother out.
"So, what do you say?"
"Hm, I'm not sure Macey, I haven't been in so long.. and you know what I'm like when I drink"
"Exactly! We'll have a great time won't we? I'll even let you pick the music, you always used to make the best playlists for parties! Do you still play?"
I immediately knew she was referring to my guitar. "Yeah I do actually, I'm learning a James Bay song at the moment" I told her and she looked at me with a smile.
"That's great, I love his music, especially Let It Go"
"That's my favourite song at the moment" A bigger smile rose on to her face. She looked absolutely stunning.
"Same!" Macey said with excitement, the petite girl in front of me raising her can up towards the air, and I swiftly tapped it with mine.
She got her phone out, then looked at me with a frown. "It's two thirty, I better be going home now"
"Oh, okay. See you at school?" I said hopefully.
"Definitely" She said rising to her feet. "Please think about that party, for me?" She stuck her bottom lip out, pouting at me like a child.
"I will" I replied with a sigh.
She clapped her hands together a few times. "Good!"
She turned around, throwing her hair over her shoulder like Clara did today at school. However, it looked so much better when she did it. I took a puff of my cigarette and smiled. I was definitely not expecting that to happen.
I thought about the party, my mind now racing like it was before Macey appeared, but for a completely different reason.
If anyone's reading this I'd love for some votes and maybe comments, I'd just like to know what I'm doing right/wrong :)
