The Forest

We ran and we didn't ever look back!  The forest that was once so alive now chills me. I remembered going for walks with my family or so I thought who knows any more my whole life could be a lie. The trees that sheltered so many with their spreading canopy of green and provided so much are now lifeless sticks, no more vibrant than the old lamp-posts in the city. The unfettered light illuminates the scorched ground and still that smell of burning lingers despite the rain.  If I were to close my eyes I would still  feel the humid air and hear the sounds of the birds. But I won't, I can't. This reality was cruel enough the first time.  Suddenly my foot caught on something and it prevented me from taking another step, I was confused until I was half way to the floor. I had already dragged my hands up in front of my face to protect me. My stomach churned over and I felt sick for this brief moment. My hands grazed along the floor and skin tore from them and pain screamed through my palms in a horrible sting, my head bumping my arm shortly after-wards. I felt dizzy and had a headache from the trauma of my head jerking so suddenly and my hands upon inspection I found were to be bleeding. "Oh shit!"

By the time I had chance to push myself up Ethan and Matt were by my side yanking me up. As they grabbed my hands they started to burn.

" We got to keep going  west, a few miles down is an abandoned quarry we can loose them there" said Ethan.

Behind me I could  hear the crunch and rustling of footsteps on the ground. Bang! A bomb, a grenade who the fuck knows but it was at this point we realized we really need to go, like um now.

"GO! "

We ran and ran for what seemed like an eternity every bone in my body ached but this wasn't going to be the end no matter how far and how long it would take we knew we had to do something we had to save everyone and everything from the vile, dreadful, horrendous Truth...
