One Hundred Forty-Two Days as a Vampire
Chapter One: Day Zero
I looked in my closest for what felt like the hundredth time. My dress hung up in the dead center with little black high heels resting at the bottom of my closet. I looked back at the purple strapless dress. I picked it up in the store moths ago thinking it would be great for homecoming. The front was plain except for the shiny purple fabric. It scarcely had a back. The only thing keeping it on me was two strips of purple fabric in an X shape in the back.
I sighed and tried to think of how tonight is going to plan out. I had ended up on the Homecoming court for the senior class. Not only was I up there living any girls dream but also my perfect football playing boyfriend was able to make it on as well. Soooo perfect. I'm not normal this shallow but it's something I have been dreaming of since I went to high school. Heck even before middle school.
I flopped onto my bed and thought this was the perfect way to start out my last year in high school. I was going to try to be involved in everything I can possibly can be in order to be decorated for graduation. I had joined so many clubs I almost couldn't keep them strait! The only thing that kept me on task was to have as many pretty cords around my neck when I walked up onto that stage. Then I could get into any college I wanted to. College, so close to freedom.
I almost didn't hear the doorbell ring but once I had I shot up at once. I waited a few minutes before I heard pounding footsteps coming up the hardwood stairs. The door handle jiggled almost like that of a horror film before my two best friends ran in.
"MMMMMAAAAAAKKKEEEE OOOOOVVVVERS" They both shouted while they held up their dresses for tonight's event.
I laughed at them and hopped off the bed and squashed them in a hug. When the hugging fest ended I flopped back onto my bed to be followed by my best friend Kat and then Hayley. My best friend Kat rolled up onto her elbows and looked at us with a wide grin and huge eyes.
"Guess what!" She said. I shared a look with Hayley before we both turned our attention back to Kat.
"What?" I asked her.
"I got a date for tonight!" She said excitedly. "It's Jack Forester. That guy who runs cross country. Ha suck it ladies, I'm not the single one any more tonight!"
I looked back over at Hayley and laughed.
"What?" asked Kat looking to the side.
"He has been so in love with you! I wondered when he would ask you out! We had so many bets" I said pointing between Hayley and myself. "And if I remember correctly....Hayley pay up!" I said sticking my hand in her face.
"You all were betting on me?" Kat said with a whine in her voice.
"Yeah, well no. It was more on him asking you out so we were really betting on him. Hayley said never or the second year of college. I said senior prom. I was closer and I win." I stuck my tongue out at Hayley as she fetched some dollars out of her purse.
"I never thought that Jack would ask you out, that boy is way to shy!" Kat said as she slapped the bills in my hand and stuck her tongue out at me.
"Loser" Hayley said.
"So what if I'm a sore loser?" Kat responded back. "That was my shoe money."
"Like you need anymore shoes! You have enough heels to make everyone tonight look like they are headed for the red carpet." I said with a chuckle.
"You are right but I can't pass up a sale! Speaking of shoes... its a big night! We need to get ready!" Kat said breaking Hayley's and my concentration to her.
