*Flashback:

A paper airplane soared across the classroom of Mr. Burk and landed in the lap of Nicole Copper. There were only 3 minutes left until the bell would ring, signaling the last day of school. She looked across the room, scanning for the airplane's pilot, and then she realized it was Tommy, the cute wrestler she had had a crush on for the past three years. His green eyes had met hers for just a split second and then he turned his head away quickly in guilt, causing his light brown hair to flow across his face. Her stomach did a flip, her heart fluttered, and her hands trembled as she began to unfold the plane to reveal the rest of the words it contained.

"I wonder what it says," she excitedly thought to herself.

All school year long, nobody had ever paid attention to Nicole, but of course on the last day somebody decided to...and it was a boy! Nicole is a quiet, reserved 8th grader who loves books and art. She has never had a real boyfriend or her first kiss yet. She has chestnut colored hair, deep hazel eyes, that are covered by glasses most of the time, and freckles along her cheeks and nose. She is very intelligent, but has a low self esteem that has affected her all throughout middle school. If Tommy liked her, she thought, then maybe she'd have a chance at being 'popular', cool, and accepted. Maybe people would stop thinking that she is awkward and want to actually talk to her.

Nicole gently opened the paper to reveal the words scribbled on the inside. She had been so happy and her hopes were so high, only to be crushed and disappointed by the revolting message.

"You are an ugly, geeky bitch and nobody likes you. Have a great summer!" ~Tommy

Hot tears filled Nicole's eyes, but she blinked them away, not wanting to let Tommy or the others see her pain. She noticed several of the popular girls covering their mouths trying to contain their giggles. She crumpled up the paper and shot it at the garbage can. More laughs and giggles came from the other side of the classroom. Luckily, the bell was about to ring and she was going to sprint out of there. She was so disappointed and angry with herself for thinking he would ever have feelings for her. It was just those stupid popular bitches trying to make her feel bad and Tommy played along. Her heart was broken.

"How could any boy ever like me anyway?" she thought. The bell rang, and Nicole quickly gathered her things and ran out like a bat outta hell.

She was finally free from the hell hole she knew as middle school...
