She seemed to glance over me and the rest of the lads but her eyes came straight back to mine. 'She can't like me, I'm just a cocky little trouble making lad - nothing special', I thought to myself as she clearly stared right into my eyes. I felt she wasn't looking at just my exterior, like she could look right deep down into the depths of my soul.
I snapped back from my thoughts just in time to notice Matty's stomach growl loud enough for the room to hear. 'Pizza lads?' he asked, hoping to split the cost,
'Tell you what, if I pay you get it. I want a decent one, mind!' I said, hoping to get some time away from the lads to think about what was going on in my head today.
'Deal man!' shouted the lads in unison. As I handed over £20, I caught a glimpse of Sally picking up her phone and reading a text. She got up and left the flat, soon followed by the lads in an uproar of laughter and stray, friendly punches; someone said something about Ryan's mum again.
Then I was alone. I sat and thought about why Sally caught my attention so much. I felt my heart beat a little faster as I thought about her. I was acting like some lovey-dovey pussy boy, the type that write poems - what the hell was up with me?! I started to get angry at her for making me like this - she wasn't interested in me - I felt like she was leading me along, what a cow!
I heard her voice outside the door: she was sobbing on the phone, 'I don't even know why I dumped him, Claire. I just don't feel like I like him anymore...no there isn't anyone else I like...I don't think...ok, bye', she came through the door and all the anger I had seemed to vanish again. I just wanted to comfort her. She saw me. 'What are you doing here?', she looked surprised.
'The guys are away getting pizza, I couldn't be bothered - my feet ache', I lied.
'Right, cool.'
A moment's silenced passed and we started talking again:
'Are you ok? Your eyes look red?'
'Yeah i'm fine, thanks, why d'you care? I mean, no offence, but you're just one of my brother's mates, I don't even know you.'
'I s'pose...I...', I'd never been lost for words with a girl before, what was she doing that made this different? 'You just seem like a nice girl, I wanted to check you were ok, thats all? Sorry?'
'No, no its fine...I like it', she let out a small smile in my direction, quickly hiding it.
'Umm, Sally? Do you have a boyfriend?'
'Not anymore, I just dumped Craig - you know - Keanu's mate?'
'Yeah, I know him' I said, gritting my teeth. He was the coward that jumped me with five other lads and threatened my mum when he couldn't find me for round two. He was a bully and a prick. I hated him, but nobody stood up to him.
'Well, I just dumped him and he wasn't happy, probably because he'd put in three weeks' effort and hadn't even hit second base with me!' she giggled.
Just then there was a knock at the door and she got up to get it. I sat there smiling - she might just like me....
'Craig, what the hell are you doing here?! Get away!'
'Let me in you little slag!', he pushed his short but almost square figure through the door, his huge, sixteen year old shoulders brushing the side of the doorframe, 'What are you doing here?' He shouted at me. This was going to kick off.
