Chapter 1 : Twilight

It was another boring morning, as I would call it. Being on a plane was torture. It felt like my feet were ready to fly away from me since I just arrived from London, England. My parents originated from Crescent City, California , but decided to move to England because of my Grandparents. It’s been 17 years  since then. My dad’s hometown was a simple, clean, green town. And it wasn’t very sunny, when you look up at the sky the rain drops will just fall on your face, the sun would only come out in the middle of the month. That sunlight only shows for a day then it goes back to the normal cloudy days. Back in London, it was always sunny yet cold. I’ll just try to coordinate with the weather.

My mom enrolled me in Dawn High School ; Dad said it was the place where he and mom met. Mom stated that I, may find the girl of my dreams here. Since I’ve never had a relationship before my parents we’re quite astonished. I just didn’t like hanging out with girls all the time. But when I was still in London the girls gave the guys roses, chocolates, letter etc. and I would get a whole box of it. Some of them even argue to get a seat beside me. And it’s so unnatural. I would like a girl that would just be simple and be herself. I don’t like girls that act sexily around me.  That’s just weird.

I unloaded all our baggage out of the car and carried it to the door. My head was still hurting from the plane ride. I didn’t waste my time counting how many hours it has been because it’s just too irritating and boring. Dad unlocked the house that he and mom had before they went to England. It was simple, creaky and a bit old; it also smelled like moist grass. It would look better if we could just repaint it and clean it up. I placed the bags inside and breathed the air.

“I missed this place” mom said while dad engulfed her with a hug.

“Your right pumpkin” dad replied while kissing her forehead. I hate seeing those moments… since it kind of makes me jealous on how long they’ve together. I wished I’d have a relationship like that. I saw a couch with a white sheath covering it. I pulled it off and dusted myself.

“That’s a lot of dust bunnies” I said while coughing.

“Yeah well we have to clean this place up before we start unpacking” Mom suggested while finding an old brush stick and a mop and giving it to us.

The rest of the day we cleaned the whole house and it wasn’t very exciting. Whenever I would look at the vacuum that mom was using it was full of dust and bunnies. After the cleaning we decided to eat outside and also buy our needs in the grocery store. When we came home I went upstairs and fell asleep in a room that I called “MINE”.

The next morning I unpacked my things and arranged my room. I placed my pictures, gran-gran’s pictures, laptop, shoes, ETC. I picked out clothes and took a shower. It felt refreshing because of the warm water it made me at ease. I finished up and dressed then went to get breakfast.

I ran downstairs to grab a piece of bread when I saw the dining table without food. Mom probably wasn’t awake yet, so I decided to cook myself breakfast. I simply toasted bread, cooked eggs then fired up some bacon. I also made coffee, just in case. I found a newspaper when I opened the front door. So I read it even though I didn’t know the people featured in it. I ate my breakfast while mom and dad went down the stairs.

“Good Morning” I greeted them while taking a sip of my coffee. Dad yawned and grabbed some coffee too.

“Good Morning” Mom said seating down on the chair. Dad gave her coffee and a plate. Dad grabbed a plate and sat down while he asked me about my school schedule.

“You need to get it today.” Dad explained. I simply nodded and checked my wrist watch.

“It’s 6:30 already. What time do I need to be there? “I asked while eating the last piece of my bread.

“In about 10 minutes” Mom said smugly. My eyes widened and I immediately ran off to get my bag. Good thanks because I already packed my bag with my needed school supplies last night. I grabbed my car keys and ran down stairs.

“I’m heading off to school now! See you later” I said while jogging to the front door.

“Have fun!” “Don’t make any enemies on your first day” They replied while I went out the front door and heading towards the car. I slid in and drove to school. My drive to school was fun because my favorite band ‘CN BLUE’ from Korea. I just liked the song ‘I’m a Loner’ because I AM a loner. I always loved to play even though I couldn’t understand it.

Anyways Dad gave me the address of the school yesterday so I already knew the location. The school wasn’t grand and it was pretty much okay. I parked beside a Chevy. I’m guessing I wasn’t late because there are still a lot of people and they were all staring at me. I saw wood sign stating ‘Front Office’ I guessed it was the front office so I went in.

The room was brightly lit. And the walls were painted white with chairs that seemed like falling off and tables with piles of papers on top of it. The temperature in the room was normal but I’d prefer the temperature outside. I saw a woman with blond hair; I’m thinking her age was around, maybe about 30 – 35 years old.

After seconds of standing there she finally noticed me “Hello? May I help you?”

“Hi, I’m Arthur. Arthur Frost, I was told to get my schedule here” She stared intently at me and nodded. “People here Dawn High school always have big fusses over new kids, so try to get used to it” She advised me while searching through a pile of papers. She showed me my schedule and gave me a map with complete information of my classes. She draws circles in it so I can easily find it. She also gave me a slip that teachers have to sign and that I should return it at the office when it was dismissal time. I said thanks to her and she gave me a reassuring smile. I smiled back in return and went to my first class. Which was World History. I entered the room and the teacher was already door so I gave him the slip and he signed it. Then he spoke up.

“Class this is Arthur Frost. He will be your schoolmate so be nice to him and befriend him, Arthur would you like to say something about yourself?” I read his name plate and it read ‘Roberts’

“No thanks Mr. Roberts Sir.” I said while smiling smugly. He assigned me a seat next to a brunette girl. If I may recall, her name was Tiffany Young.

Sr. Roberts taught us about how humans came out from monkeys. It wasn’t a very interesting lesson. I felt like sleeping but the tapping of a pen kept me from actually doing it. Since my seat was next to the window I would often stare outside. Tiffany was the one tapping her pen and it irritated me I would just stare at her tapping her notebook. I actually didn’t notice her face until I looked up. She had brown hair that reached down to her shoulder. She was calm and her face would always stay focused even though she was often hit by paper balls. I couldn’t tear my eyes off her, I observed her every move. How her fingers would make movements that I can’t even do, how she wrote her name many times on her notebook. My train of thought was caught off when Mr. Roberts asked me a question. I stood up and looked nervously at him.

“What was the question again sir?” I scratched my hair and acted innocent. Eyes were staring at me like owls on a prey.

“Who is the Philosopher that ignored divine intervention and stressed that men were the workers of their future, and that rulers should study their history to shape their future?” the question was long but I was relieved that I knew the answer.

“It’s Niccolò Machiavelli.” I stated with a hint of happiness in my voice.

“Very good Mr. Frost. But next time try to pay attention to ‘my ‘lesson not to your seatmates” his voice had bitterness in it.
