“What's the plan?” Ron asked. I looked at Fred and George.
“You two said you could drive that car. So tonight…” We planned quickly and quietly and at ten, the boys went to their rooms to feign sleep until we were sure everyone else was asleep, while I snuck downstairs to get the car key out of Uncle Arthur’s briefcase. Around one thirty, we met in the garden and went over the plan again. The boys would take the car, get Harry, and be back before the sun rose. I would wait by the stairs and keep Aunt Mol occupied, with various pranking objects that the twins shared with me, if she happened to wake up. I watched them set out towards where the car was hidden and silently made my way up the stairs, where I hid in a dark corner by my Aunt and Uncle’s room.
------------
It was several hours before there was any movement in the Burrow, so many hours that I began to think the boys would actually make it back before their mother woke up. It was starting to get light out, so I figured it was all clear to go down to the kitchen and wait for them there. I carefully took the stairs down, but when I took the last step into the room, I looked up to see Aunt Mol, rather red and fuming I might add, pacing the kitchen. She stopped when she saw me, no doubt I gave myself away as I stood there wide-eyed and terrified, and stormed right up to me.
“You know where they are don’t you?” She screamed. She was only a few inches taller than me, but she seemed colossal in height as she glared down at me, causing me to cower away from her fury. I gulped audibly and stared at her, speechless. How did she manage to get by me? I wondered to myself.
“How long have you been up?” I asked, trying, and failing, to sound casual. She just glared at me.
“I thought you were with them, young lady! All of your beds empty! And no note? I thought you had gotten kidnapped! But then I looked in the garage and the car was gone! They could be dead! I thought you all would be dead! Do you have any idea how worried I have been? Where are they?” She screeched at me. I remained silent, not wanting to make matters worse. She was about to start up again when she sharply turned her head.
The car was back by the garage and the boys were exiting the vehicle, talking in hushed voices. She grabbed my ear (Ow!) and pulled me along behind her as she stormed across the yard towards them, me protesting and trying to get out of her painful hold on me the entire way. When she got to the boys, who were frozen in terror and shock, she pushed me next to them and gave them the same lector I just received. Meanwhile, I was rubbing my ear and wondering how such a small pinch could be so dang painful. Once she was done, she warmly greeted Harry and we all followed her into the kitchen for breakfast. I backed up Fred and George as they tried to explain why they took the car and told Ron to “shut up, stupid” when he told Harry about Ginny constantly gushing about him. We all went into the garden after we finished and I climbed into one of the trees to watch the boys as they de-gnomed.
“Oi, she told you to help to, Nikki! Get down here and help,” Fred said as he fought with a gnome who was trying to bite him.
“When have I ever helped de-gnome the garden in the last year? What makes you think I’ll start now, Georgy?” I said.
“I’m Fred!” He yelled up at me after tossing the gnome over the hedge.
“I know,” I said teasingly, winking at him. He scowled at me and threw an apple, which had fallen from one of the trees in the garden, at my head. I quickly dodged it and looked at him.
“Too slow! Gryffindor doesn’t have a chance this year if you’re their Beater! The Bludger is gonna be too fast for you,” I laughed.
“Whatever, Nikki! You and the Snakes won’t have a chance if you’re Seeker this year. You can barely even mount your broom, little girl!” George teased back. I scoffed; I could mount my broom perfectly and I knew it.
Harry cut into our playful bantering, “you’re trying out for Seeker?”
“Yes I am. I’ve been practicing all summer,” I said proudly. “I can already beat those two in a race,” I said, gesturing to Fred and George, “and I’m the same speed as the Hufflepuff Seeker.” The next couple of days went by quickly and Harry seemed to be really happy and comfortable in the Burrow. We got our Hogwarts letters about a week after Harry arrived and they made plans to go to Diagon Alley with Granger, so I wrote Draco and told him that I’d see him there.
