Chapter Two-Making Friends

Ring ring.. ring ring.. Minchi wakes up. She had just then realized that she was dozing off. As she sees her classmates get up, she quickly grabs her bag and walks out. It was the lunch bell. Upon noticing that she had gone far enough, she finds a shaded tree and sits under it. She takes a sandwich from her bag ang gave it a big bite. She was alone. 

"How can this day get any worse? I should have made new friends. Now look at me. Talking to myself, eating by myself", she sighed. " Well at least I have this tree with me", she smiles as she touches the small tree that protected her from the sun.

"Aaaah!!" Minchi suddenly screamed as there was a spider that landed on her sandwich. She panicked and tossed her food away. A girl notices her from afar and quickly comes over.

"Hey, are you okay? What happened?" the girl worriedly asked.

Minchi was trying to calm herself down, "there's a spider that fell on my sandwich.I panicked!"

The girl laughs. "Yes you panicked. Things like this will likely to happen especially if you seat under this tree",she points up, revealing spiderwebs hanging from the branches". Minchi quickly gets up and moves away from the tree.

"You know, you can seat with us. It's only me and my bestfriend over there", she points to a girl seating in a sheltered bench.

"Oh thank you! I would love to eat with you", Minchi grabs her bag and walks with the girl.

"By the way, my name is Rachel Chang", the girl in deep brown hair offers her hand.

"Mindel. I'm Mindel Chivers", Minchi reaches for her hand. "And this is Faye Renolds, my really quiet bestfriend. We're both Juniors" Rachel speaks as Faye gives Minchi a smile.

Faye scooches over, "come sit with me."

"Thanks", Minchi smiles.

The three started a friendly conversation. Minchi learned a lot of things from her newly found friends. She learned that Rachel can speak Chinese and Cantonese, she learned that Faye loves reading books. She learned that both of her new friends went to the same middle school together. But before she could tell things about herself, the school bell rings, signaling that they must part ways soon.

"The time flies by so fast. What class will you guys go to next?" Minchi asked.

"Hmm. Let's see. It says here that I have P.E. next, so does Faye", Rachel carefully scans her class schedule.

"Really? How lucky! I have P.E. too! Should we go together?" Minchi happily grabs her bag and takes extra books that Faye was carrying.

The three girls happily exits out the locker room. They head into the gym and sat as a group. Rachel accidentally leans on the guy behind her,"I'm sorry about that". She quickly recognizesthe guy,"hey Dylan!"

"Hey Rachel", he smiles but notices Minchi who was sitting across Rachel. He turns around. Rachel notices him staring at Minchi,"She's Min-"

"I know, we met earlier", he shows a smile."I know that I told you that my name is Mindel but please call me Minchi, Mindel sounds so old-fashioned", Minchi returns a smile.

"Minchi", Dylan spoke softly as he remembered a time when he had tha same conversation, it was with Minchi who looked a little younger than she is now. "I know that I introduced myself as Mindel but please call me Minchi instead. My name sounds so old-fashioned", Dylan recalls on how she introduced herself. This memory of Minchi kept playing in his head, as if he was relieved to have met the same Minchi from years ago.

"Yes?" Minchi responded, causing Dylan to snap out of it. "It's nothing, Minchi is also quite a unique name", Dylan reassures that he was listening.

"Shhh. The coach is here", Faye whispers as she tries to get in line for attendance. The others got back in line. Faye observed Dylan who was eyeing on Minchi. She whispers to Dylan who was seating beside her, "it was her, wasn't it?"

Dylan looked at Faye. He smiled and signaled a hush sign by letting his index finger touch his lips. Faye is saddened as she look back at Minchi who had no memory of her encounter with Dylan years before.
