Chapter 1

"I win!" Chase chanted fisting his arms in the air. I smiled widely at my brother. I let him win at another game of checkers. He was good because he learned from the best but I was a tad bit better. I looked at my phone seeing it was almost time for my shift at the hardware store.

"Chase it's getting late you should get ready for bed buddy" I collected all of the pieces to the checker board and put them in their boxes.

"But... Ruben remember you said I could go to sleep late tonight?" Chase yawned. I smiled and walked my little brother to his bed. I pecked his cheek and watched as he drifted off into a deep sleep.

Chase is special, not just because he has down syndrome. He is special because he knows he has it but he refuses to let it bother him. I don't know where his determination came from but I love that he doesn't mind being himself.

I drove my moms car to work and locked in for my nine o'clock shift. The hardware was quite as usual but I'm not complaining thats how I like it. I walked down the aisles with a smile on my face, placing boxes upon the shelves.

"You! Lady where is the floor tiles?" I looked up and was presented with a god-like figure. He was tall professional looking with a chisled face. He wore slacks with a white shirt underneath his blazer. He held a serious face and didn't seem fazed that I was openingly checking him out. My ears got hot and I smiled at him. He didn't smile back but rolled his beautiful hazel eyes with annoyance. "Today please" he combed his brown hair with his fingers.

I began to walk assuming he was following, I looked behind me and sure enough the handsome man was following. He looked down at his phone his thumbs moving visiously fast. "Um.. sir what type of tiles are you looking for?" I pointed to the tiles on display.

"Those look too cheap" he points to the marble green glass stained tiles which is one of our most exspensive.

"Well I can assure you their not cheap but if you would like to see more there are many other choices in aisles five and six. If you need anymore help don't hesitate to ask." I spun on my heels and began to walk back to where I was before Mr. Prefection interrupted me.

"Excuse me-" I turned around and raised my eyebrow. Need help already. "-iv'e never been here before and I'd be much more comfortable If you would stay beside me. Thank you." I felt a tad bit like a dog but nonetheless; I stayed beside him watching him look at the tiles and make various faces of disgust. "Get me something to drink" he said focusing his gaze on his phone. Was he talking to me? I looked around to see if there was any other person around but there wasn't. "Now" he dismissed me.

I got a water bottle and hurried back to him. I handed to him hetook the cap off and took a long swig. "Whats your name?" He still made no effort of looking me in the eye.

"Ruben"

He smirked. "Your aware that you have a masculine name right?"

"Well every one calls me Rue or Ruby." I smiled. "I get that alot."

He tossed me the water bottle and lookd at his watch. "Well Ruben I'm afraid I have to depart now but I'll be back. Be here at 9:30 sharp tomorrow." He walked briskly away.

"I don't work tomorrow I have the day off!" I shouted after him.

"I'm afraid I didn't ask. 9:30 pm sharp, and I hate to wait." He walked out of the hardware shop leaving me confused and in awe. No guy as ever treated me like that, he held so much dominance, God... is the woman that holds his heart lucky.
