a frightening or unpleasant dream.

Finally, the long awaited summer arrived at last. Every summer Anastasia had the same struggle, breaking the habit of being up at 5 am and being asleep by 10 pm to prepare for school. She never was really a night owl, late for her was 11:30 pm to midnight. But lately, that hadn't been the issue. She spent countless nights, up and wide awake. Ever since she found out about Luke she didn't get much sleep. Days and nights she thought about how it was possible, for him to be dead yet existing. How it was possible that people had the slightest clue that he was dead, a ghost. How exactly had he died. Millions of thought flooded through her mind, and they never stopped. She loved Luke, and she wanted to be with him, but she didn't know what he would do to her, what he was capable of. What If he hurts her one day?
Anastasia mentally cursed herself whenever the thought of Luke hurting her crossed her mind, he loved her he would never so that.
She told herself that daily, sometimes several times a day. Her and Luke talked all the time, hung out on occasion, things were pretty normal. At Least that's what she tried to tell herself on most days. Other days it was a constant battle with herself between loving him and wanting to cry out for help, wanting to escape Luke. Yet, she didn't know why she thought this way. Luke had done nothing wrong to her, Luke never hurt her, he was a kind loving person to her. But yet, she couldn't help but feel the need to escape.
Nights were the worst for her. Nights were when she did the most thinking. The first day or two she would stay up, just thinking, worrying. But as the week went on it got worse. She tried sleeping but sleeping turned in to horrific nightmares. She didn't know why she had the nightmares but they always ended up with her waking up, a frightened, breathless mess. Thinking maybe it was just a weird coincidence, she continued to try to get rest. The nightmares got worse and worse. They all would begin differently but they all had the same horrible ending.
They all ended with Luke killing her.
She thought maybe it was the nightmares that made her so afraid, so she began to take caffeine pills to help her stay awake. No sleep meant no nightmares. But the dosage was low, they didn't last very long so most nights she eventually slept anyways, resulting in a nightmare. The little sleep she did get was from naps throughout the day. Her mind wasn't as occupied during the day as it was durning the night.

And yet here she sat in her bed, another sleepless night, watching the minutes past by on the digital clock on her desk. Waiting for sleep to take over as she prepared for the daily nightmare.
Instead of sleep, she got a text message.

*Sleep?* she read the text message from Luke.

*No, Why?*
She anxiously watched the three little bubbles move in the message bubble as she waited for a reply.
*Come to the back door please.*
Anastasia nervously got out of her bed and quietly tip toed down the stairs, to the back door.

"Is everything okay?" She said quietly opening the door.

"Can we talk?" Luke said fiddling with the end of his shirt. "Um, sure. What's up?" Anastasia said.
"Is everything okay with you Ana?" Luke asked.
"Yeah, why wouldn't it be?" Anastasia said lying. She held Luke's hand to comfort him.
"You've just been acting strangely lately. Like you've been kinda distant towards me, your up later and later and you never used to sleep late, you're loosing weight, you look kind of pale." Luke sighed, " If anythings going on you can tell me, you know that."

Anastasia looked down guiltily. She felt bad for hiding her feelings from like, but she couldn't exactly tell him how she felt either. "Why are you so quiet?" Luke asked.
Anastasia shrugged her shoulders, she didn't know what to say. "Just please talk to me." Luke almost sounded as he was begging to know what was going on with Anastasia.
"You would never hurt me right?" She asked after moments of silence.
"You know I would never hurt you, I promise.
"So you would never kill me, right?"
"Anastasia why are you asking me this?" Luke sighed, he was nervous but he tried not to show it.
" I don't know I've just been having these really bad reoccurring dreams and they all end in you killing me and-" Anastasia paused. "I can assure you, I'm never going to hurt you in any way." Luke kissed Anastasia's forehead and pulled her into a hug. "You should probably get some sleep." Luke said letting her go only to be pulled back by Anastasia. "Stay." Anastasia said.
"What? Come on Ana really it's 1 am, you need rest and your dad gets up for work in a couple of hours, like 6 or something. "I'll make sure my parents don't know your here, just stay here with me tonight. Please."
Luke sighed, "This is a ridiculous idea. You know we'll get caught."
Anastasia pulled Luke down so her lips could reach his. She kissed him gently, she still wasn't used to the whole kissing thing. "Just do it, for me. Besides, my mom is always up the same time as my dad so we can eat breakfast together, I'll have you out after breakfast.
Luke knew it was a bad idea, but he went along with it anyways. The two of them quietly made their way to the bedroom. Luke sat on the bed as he took off his jacket and his shoes. "You know this is a crazy idea." Luke whispered.
"Why are you whispering this house is old, it has crazy thick walls. My parents can't hear you." Anastasia said a little louder than Luke. Anastasia laid in the bed as Luke just sat at the end. "You don't have to sit there you know." She said pulling the blanket over her. Luke sighed and laid next to her in the bed. "You know when we got together I had the impression that you were a quote on quote good girl." Luke wrapped his arms around Anastasia's waist. She shrugged, pretty much dismissing the topic. "Do you ever like sleep?" She asked. She almost forgot to set an alarm so she could be up before her dad, to make sure he didn't come in her room and see Luke. "I mean like, I can but I don't need to, I'm dead."
"Yeah I get that but you're like, not dead at the same time." Anastasia said not even really getting what she said. "You're sleep deprived, go to sleep." Luke smiled at her. Anastasia smiled back as she silently drifted to sleep.

That night, Ana didn't have a single nightmare.
