"GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"
The fear in Jack's voice was evident. He was on his back, doing the best he could to keep that monster from biting into his neck and ripping his head off. It was dark and I couldn't make out what it was, but I knew it was big. Jack was a muscular guy but he was having a hard time keeping it off him.
"What are you waiting for?!" Jack yelled. "Go!"
Haylee took hold of my hand. "Eve, let's go!"
We stood at the bottom step, watching in terror as that thing snarled and snapped its mouth at him. The sounds coming from it were scary. It was enough to send anyone into a frenzy.
"We can't just leave him."
Haylee continued to yank on my arm. "Why the hell not?!"
"He saved us at the festival," I said, having no intentions of leaving him here. "We have to do something."
I ran into the kitchen as quickly as I could, searching for something that could help Jack. Except there wasn't anything. The drawers were either empty or filled with random arts and crafts materials while the cabinets were stock piled with what looked like a million little glass figurines.
"What the hell is this?!" my frustrations echoed throughout the first floor, prompting Haylee to join me in the kitchen.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"Looking for something sharp but all there is are these damn glass figurines!" I slammed the cabinets shut.
A rumbling sound from the living room erupted and when we turned around to look, Jack and the monster were on the hardwood floors, rolling around, one trying to get leverage on the other.
"Oh God!" Haylee quickly backed away deeper into the kitchen.
The windows on the first floor provided just enough light for us to see it. Its skin was a deep black, almost charcoal black, and it had wings that looked like sharp stones. It was large, covering Jack, who was probably 5'10, with ease. Its arms were hairy and muscular and it had large claws for hands. It also had a long tail, which it used to hold Jacks feet together.
Jack was a fighter, trying his best to hold back the monsters arms. But he was slowly losing the battle and when he lost grip of the monsters left arm, I screamed in fear.
"Jack!"
The monster began choking him, now with both claws. He managed to turn his head just enough for me to see him. His face was bloody and his eyes were bloodshot. Drool from the monster fell on his face.
"Get off him!" I shouted.
It looked at me, opening its large mouth and letting out a roar that shook the entire kitchen. Glass figurines went flying, some shattering into a million pieces while others survived the fall. The monster got up and turned to me, opening its wings and letting out another roar.
Jack coughed. "Get out of here!"
The monster began charging at me. It broke the frame of the kitchen door on its way but just as it was about to reach me, it slipped on the figurines, hitting the ground hard. It was enough for me to run into the adjacent dining room.
I looked around. "Haylee?!"
She wasn't anywhere to be found. I hoped she was smarter than I and had gotten herself out of here. When I heard the monster getting up, I ran back to the living room and down to Jack, who was still trying to catch his breath.
