my hands shivered from the cold winter air. I guess that's what I get for not wearing gloves today I suppose.

it was thirty three degrees, possibly the coldest it ever gets in fresno.

I walked into my first class of the day, warming up quite a bit from the nice heater inside.

fresno state college. not my first choice in schools, but the closest to the home that I knew I couldn't leave.

my German professor smiled at me as I walked into the class, "Guten Tag, Frau Schindler" I greeted. her bleach blonde hair and light blue eyes made her look younger than she actually was, and her perfectly white teeth only added to the collection.

"Guten Morgen." she greeted back, her accent fading due to the time she has lived in the united states.

I set my bag down next to my unofficial-official seat, taking off my coat and getting out my notes.

I sat through today's lecture listening carefully to what my professor said, and writing down as much stuff as I possibly could.

"oh hostess cakes" I said under my breath as my left hand started to cramp from writing so much. gently, I massaged it with my right thumb until it went away.

I missed a slide from the lecture, but went along and copied the rest.

my agonizing two and a half hour lecture went by painfully slow as I tried not to pound my head against the table, but I knew first semester finals were coming up soon, so I needed to get my act together.

I made my way to the student lounge during my forty-five minute break, hoping that it was warm in there and that I could get something with the two dollars and twelve cents that I had in my bag. dang college tuition.

I stood in line for some hot chocolate, playing words with friends on my phone against the computer, because I had no friends. anymore anyways.

"can I get some hot chocolate please?" the man ahead of my ordered.

"$1.50, please." the cashier said with a smile. the man started counting his change, seeming to come up short.

"I only have $1.30." he said with his voice full of sorrow.

me, being my nosy butt, butted in. "can you make that two please?" I asked the cashier, and she smiled at me, as I handed him my two dollars, and he put in his one.

"thank you" he smiled at me, and I smiled back.

"no problem."

my day went on normally, my classes flying by. before I knew it, my fourth and final class of the day was over, and I could finally go back home to my single dorm.

my side table lamp was on when I unlocked the door, so I shut it off and turned the heater on high.

I fell into my bed, landing face first and immediately cuddling myself into my duvet. my used dell laptop lay next to my bed, wide open and on. the school website was open, the study group page of all the groups I could join. I really needed to. I was just procrastinating doing it.

on the other hand, I needed friends. so, I applied for one that meets on Wednesday nights, and shut down my laptop, setting my phone alarm to go off every Wednesday at 6pm.

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

my alarm sounded softly, waking me from my short lived nap. oh yeah, it's Wednesday.

I put on my shoes and coat. remembering to grab my gloves, wallet, and bag before I left to the student lounge to meet up with my study group.

I walked with my headphones in, listening to Hillside United. I watched my breath as it left my nose, the air being visible in this frosty weather. it is never this cold. ever. why does it feel like I live in Antarctica ?

the study group started out with everyone introducing themselves, and figuring out which classes we all take, and which subjects we needed to study for.

there were only about ten people in the study group- including me. seven out of the ten of us were males. six out if the ten were minoring or majoring in psychology. three of us were majoring in literature. then there was me. Studying Greek and European history and religion.

good thing the only final it had left to study for was German, and I was not the only one taking that coarse.

the group split up into pairs and spread to different tables for the night.

I took out my German notes, getting ready to study. when my partner introduced himself.

"hey, I'm harry."

"I'm Jess."
