The Christmas spirit was quite evident in California. In fact, Jude could not go anywhere without stumbling upon a blow up Santa clause or the sound of a highly overplayed Christmas tune. And of course he could never seem to avoid the ever so popular mistletoe.Jude wouldn't say he hated mistletoe - he just grew quite bitter whenever he was near one. Sure, it was fun in elementary and middle school when he found himself under the festive plant along with a cute girl, but now, he found it simply annoying.
Oh and don't get him wrong, of course he still enjoyed it - y'know kissing someone he fancied in such a joyous time of the year - the only problem was he never seemed to kiss the right person.
It seemed the so called christmas magic that placed him under a mistletoe with another person couldn't seem to get it right. Was it so much to ask for just once to end up in that position with the person he'd been infatuated with for years?
But he guessed it was, considering it had been five years, and he still hadn't kissed him.
It was Christmas Eve of his junior year, however, when that moment he had been waiting half a decade for - decided to arrive.

It was Christmas Eve and Jude was sat on his front step. The Adams-Foster family was hosting their annual Christmas party along with friends and family, causing chatter to be heard quite clearly through the closed front door.He shivered and rubbed his hands up and down his bare arms in an attempt to warm himself up. Occasionally blowing on his hands in a further attempt.
He leaned back and turned his head to face his best friend, taylor, and spoke. "I'm not even inside and I can practically smell the mistletoe that I'm not going to be kissed under." He took a large breath in through his nose and sighed with a bitter smile.
Taylor chuckled and shook her head. "Your moms hang mistletoes literally everywhere; I don't see how you've failed to kiss him for five years straight."
Jude groaned, rubbing his hands over his face. "Neither do I."
Taylor laughed at him further. "Y'know, if you let me help..."
Jude's head lifted from his hands, shaking his head frantically. "No."
She looked at him in mock hurt. "What? Why?"
He continued to shake his head. "No. I don't want you to ruin this."
"How would I ruin it?"
"You would find a way." He shot back immediately.
"Rude." She glared at him playfully.
"Sorry, but I value our friendship way too much for you to meddle." He mumbled.
She sighed sympathetically. "You're right, I'm sorry."
Jude forced a smile. "Don't worry about it. I'll just die alone - no big deal."
She rolled her eyes. "You're not gonna die alone. Don't be ridiculous."
He frowned, sighing dramatically. "He's the only one for me."
"Oh god."
"But he doesn't want me." He turned to look at her, grabbing her hands. "And I cry every day because of that." He hunched over, pretending to cry.
Taylor shoved his knee and laughed quietly at her friend. "Shut up."
Jude looked up at her and sighed. "But seriously, can he like take one for the team and just date me?" He whined.
