LYRICS: He says, "Oh, baby girl, you know we're gonna be legends I'm a king and you're a queen and we will stumble through heaven If there's a light at the end, it's just the sun in your eyes I know you wanna go to heaven, but you're human tonight"

EXPLANATION: With a subtle and soft approach, this man establishes that his sex game is godly and unmatched.

Since religiously, philosophically, or mythologically, humans can't reach heaven because, well, they're not dead yet. He's willing to "give her" a little taste of what it's like to be near a supreme being.

Heaven is envisioned as a place in the clouds, so it's only right that the sun might be blinding. However, at the same time, he may be talking about himself considering she's looking at him.

LYRICS: And I've been sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool For a while now, drowning my thoughts out with the sounds

EXPLANATION:  Note how Halsey drowns her thoughts, although in the legitimate world, she would be the one to drown if she remained at the bottom of this pool.

This is an expression representing what it feels like to bottle everything up inside, eventually arriving a point of becoming overwhelmed with all that may sit inside.

This is also a reference to "Swimming Pool" by The Front Bottoms:

"--There's comfort at the bottom of a swimming pool
I'm holding my breath for you"

These lines are used as a metaphor for love, in which Halsey can relate and flies through the streets with her young god, making her temporarily distracted from the thoughts that haunt her.

EXPLANATION:In a similar vein to gods, this man and Halsey, together, feel their love is invincible and in control.

This is quite a change from the first verse, after being told that she is human, and that together they could be king and queen traveling through the heavens.

In the chorus she has metaphorically evolved into a goddess, giving her the ambient feeling of soaring. While the people running are still human as they have yet to find love.

LYRICS: (We'll be running, running, running again) (We'll be running, running, running)

EXPLANATION: The pronoun "we'll" is future tense showing that Halsey and the man's love won't last forever, eventually losing their god-like status and ultimately becoming regular humans again.

Their love has a deadline and they'll find each other searching for a new one, just like they did before they met. In thematic fashion, these lines can be connected to the second verse in "Haunting":
