EXPLANATION:

Interstate-405, or "the 405" is a California highway. A long distance from Ben Stuy, but she's a wanderess belonging to no city. The stick shift gives a vintage Americana vibe to this roadtrip.

She swerves as she keeps her focus on the road, which she channels her thoughts about life into.

Illuminated in the light, bouncing off the exit signs I missed

EXPLANATION:

Being distracted by her lover riding shotgun with her causes her to miss the exit routes they're supposed to take on the highway to get back.

EXPLANATION:
