"How could someone be so damn careless?" Mrs. Ayala shouts with frustration. She looks down at her now wet shirt which was just her spilled coffee. She was definitely having one of her morning moods and unfortunately the new kid has pumped into her during one of her MANY moods. This makes the entire scene not as enjoyable because it  doesn't help that it was the new kid who is at the end of the sword. He doesn't know you're supposed to avoid pissing her off. She was the school's bitch, she probably grew up being controlled so rather than working through her childhood trauma she gets a job where she's in charge of children. She proceeds to pick up her cup from the ground while the boy who pumped into her stared with embarrassment. I wanted to jump in and stand up for him, however, I wasn't trying to have a sword pointed at me. I wanted to just tell him it was okay, but I feared her more. "Sorry." The new kid apologizes. He had walked in without looking where he was walking, occupied by something in his binder and Mrs. Ayala wasn't paying attention herself. She walked right into him. "You're an idiot." She shouts again. See, she's a bitch. "Are you usually this mean?" Everyone gasps. It seems immature to anyone outside of the dynamic, but no one talks back and he just talked back. We were eyeing him, waiting to find out the response from the bitch. "What is your name?" She had a smirk on her face, you can tell there was ill intentions behind that smirk. "Shawn." He looked unbothered by her gaze and you could tell that it bothered her. "Well Shawn, you need to be more careful of where you walk. You may find yourself in trouble. Detention after school." She turns on her heels pretty proud of herself as she makes her way to her desk. She sits down and proceeds to put her cup on her desk and opens up her laptop. "I'm getting detention over an accident?"  He had real balls if he was unwilling to take his fate without a fight. He wanted to fight.  Then again, he doesn't know her yet. "Accident or not, you need to learn consequences for your stupidity to ensure you don't make the same mistake again." She was proud of her response. "Did your parents have more kids after you?" The new kid asks. Some giggles started to fill the room, we all knew what he meant by that question. "Find an empty seat and sit down." I was truly believing that he was brave and possibly kind.

That's what I thought then...

TWO MONTHS LATER.....

Coming home to an empty house isn't out of the ordinary and wouldn't normally bother me. I used to enjoy having the house to myself even if it was for a couple of minutes. I keep staring at the ceiling of my room waiting for my mom to get home. Once she arrived home  I wouldn't be anxious anymore. I used to take the time I would have alone as the time to unwind. I'd fill up my tub and light up some candles and enjoy a relaxing bath. Instead, when I come home to an empty house I'm ensuring all windows and doors are locked. I have unfortunately caught the attention of an obvious stalker. My mother has dismissed most of my pleading to move me to a different sate so I resorted to a different town. She wouldn't compromise. She has installed security cameras to help me feel safer and she has changed shifts at her job which was a completely different frustration for her as working for the hospital means your schedule isn't always negotiable. I feel my phone vibrate under my pillow and I immediately feel my heart pounding harder in my chest.

I feel another vibration and with a deep breath I slide my hand under my pillow as I lay on my right side and unlock it. I stare at the message and wonder how far my mother is from arriving home. These are the times where I truly wished we were the military family that had to move a lot. Having my father home would make feel much safer.  Whoever it was behind the other line was starting to cause me too much anxiety that it was starting to piss me off.
