New Neighbors

I sat at home, having trouble with my homework. I had to write several essays for my classes and it was a struggle. A Top 10 for social studies, a huge packet for math, another huge packet for science and an essay for English. I decided to call Em so we could do the homework together.

We haven't talked much seeing as she has been pre-occupied with her new, er, distraction. You see, Em moves on from man to man. 1 month it'll be one guy and he next it's another. Currently she is dating Jake, the schools well known bad boy. Em is pretty popular so she any guy she wants. So she took Jake.

I punched in her number and listened to the ringing from the phone. It rang for what felt like hours. No answer. I tried one more time. No luck. I guess I'll be doing this by myself. I decided I should just do my essay for english since that was due tomorrow.

Many hours later
*comment if you read that in the SpongeBob narrator voice*

I finally finished my essay and begun my Top 10. I only did 5 since that wasn't due yet. Once I finally finished my homework, I tried calling Em again.

*Ring,ring....ring,ring....ring,ring*

I was then put on her voicemail.

"Hi, you've tried calling me, but obviously I'm occupied at the moment. Just leave a message and I'll call you later." I left a message and put my phone on my bed. I left my room and started playing with my little sister Shelby. She was 4 years old and looks just like I did when I was her age. It would be cooler if she actually liked me. Her idea of 'playing' was screaming at me and hitting me. Oh well, it's better then nothing. My other siblings were playing around in the room but the everything went silent. In a house of 7 children, well, that was never good. My siblings the started stomping through the house and into the living room where Shelby and I were still playing.

"Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn! You won't believe what we just saw!!" My only brother Dan said this. Last time they said this, they got me in a whole lot of trouble.

"Yeah, wait until you see it!" And the blonde spoke. Natalia was the only blonde of he house. Not including my mom of course.

"Well are you gonna keep blabbing about it or show me?" They never stop speaking. The rest of my siblings will be introduced soon. They pulled me up from the ground as I scooped up Shelby and walked behind them. If they don't stop stomping we'll be in a lot of trouble. They brought me into Dan's room, where the only window in the room over looked the desolate house next door. Well, it used to be. The house was now going to be occupied by a family of 4. A man, a woman, a boy who looked around my age and a girl who looked around Shelby's age. There was one thing I dreaded about new neighbors. Welcoming them. Every time we had a new neighbor, my parents would drag us all to the house with cookies to welcome the new neighbors. It always sucked because the people were generally old couples looking for a place where they could relax for a while.

And speak of the devil. The smell of cookies baking in the oven filled my nose. Almost as a signal for me to get my siblings ready.

"Alright everyone get dressed!" I shouted out.

"But we are dressed." Natalia said. Lemme tell you this girl came from the sass house before she came here.

"Into nice clothes Natalia." I ran with Shelby still in my arms and changed her into her cute little purple dress with ruffles on the bottom. I then put her hair into a cute half-up-half-down style and then ran out to get myself done. I brushed my teeth, changed into a casual dress and braided my straight mouse brown hair to the side.

I then walked into the living room where Shelby started hitting me...Joy. I sat down and went on my phone with a cookie that my mom made in my hand. As much as I hate welcoming new neighbors, my mom made the best cookies. So it's worth it is guess.

"Alright kids come down it's almost time to welcome the new neighbors!" For a small woman, my mom has lungs. I then heard the stomping of 5 children running through the hallway and into the living room, where everyone was then ushered out of the living room and outside in the warm spring sun. We walked down the road, and through the driveway of our new neighbors, where my mom asked me, more like forced me, to knock on the door, with cooking in hand. The door was opened and I was met with an aroma of food cooking on a stove. It smelled good. A woman with long red curly hair tied into a ponytail to keep out of her face, and green eyes met us at the door. She had a lovely smile that made me immediately feel welcomed.

"Oh my! There are alot of you! You must be our neighbors, please come inside."

"Thank you very much. These are for you by the way." My mom spoke up while gesturing towards the bin of cookies in my hand, which I gladly handed to her.

"Oh thank you! One moment please, Ella! Sam! Can you please come down here, we have company!" This woman has a pair of lungs too.

"Ok mama!!" I heard one of the cutest little footsteps stomping down as Ella ran down. She looked like her father, with tan skin, green eyes and curly dark brown hair pulled into two little pigtails. And then I heard the footsteps of someone who I assumed was Sam. He looked like his father too, with green eyes straight dark brown hair and tan skin. His eyes darted to each and everyone of us until he came to me.

"Hi." I murmured looking away. To say that this guy didn't look good was a lie. His eyes were easy to get lost into and he had a bit of muscle to keep him from looking lazy. Ella looked at Shelby and her eyes lit up, as did Shelby's.

"Hi I'm Ella what's your name?"

"I'm Shelby!"

"Wanna go play dollies?" Shelby nodded eagerly as they stomped up fee stairs and into Ella's bedroom.

"Well I have to go get Hank, and put on some tea. If you need me just yell out Alice. Which is my name. Please make your selves at home. The playroom is the first door to your left if you kids would like to play." Alice said.

"Let me help you with that Alice." Typical mom, or moms should I say. I feel like every mom offers to help out when welcome a new neighbor. My siblings all ran into the playroom, leaving me and Sam alone.

"So you know my name, but I don't know yours." He spoke. His green eyes piercing into my blue ones.

"My name is Rachel."

"Well Rachel, our mom's are probably going to be a while, what do you wanna do?"

"Talk I guess."

And so begins a new friendship.
