As Marcus prepared for his move to Miami, he looked back at the town he grew up in. "So long, Stamford.", he said to himself as he got into his father's white pick up truck. He watched as they slowly drove out of the state of Connecticut, knowing that they were leaving tons of memories behind. "Listen, Marcus, I know this is a big change for us and all, but we need to move on. I couldn't live with that woman any longer.", Kevin, Marcus' father, said. His father recently divorced his stepmother, because of an argument between the two over Marcus' real mother. She died when Marcus was 4 years old from lung cancer. His father remarried 2 years after to a woman named Katherine, the same woman his father just divorced. "Marcus, do you plan on finding a lucky lady some day?", his father asked. "Dad, I'm not really into the whole relationship thing. What's the point? You're just giving a friend a chance to have sex with you. It ruins the point of even making friends.", Marcus said in a quick breath. His father sighed and shook his head, "Son, I won't always be 36. When I start to grow old, I expect grandchildren. I want you to at least make a friend in Florida."
Marcus rolled his eyes. Ever since Marcus hit puberty, at the age of 12, his father has been trying to make Marcus date someone. Marcus grew annoyed with his pestering about girls and sex, he decided to take out his newly bought comic book and read. His dad scoffed then chuckled, "How will you get girls if you keep reading comic books, playing video games and collecting things!? Why not try out for a sport? Like football! Remember your big cousin, Davis? Your aunt told me that he's the star quarterback for his school. Why not try out for something productive instead of staying in your room on your laptop all day?", his dad always compared Marcus to other family members because Marcus isn't like his big, popular cousins with amazing charm. He was just a small, nerdy 16 year old boy with no charm. "I plan on graduating with an academic scholarship. Sports aren't really my thing. Sorry, dad.", Marcus said without looking up from his comic book. He adjusted his glasses more and concentrated on his comic. "I just think you should try something new.. Promise me you'll go to one party at the least this year?", his father sighed. Marcus rolled his eyes and reluctantly said, "Fine, I promise". This is going to be a long ride to Florida...., he thought to himself.{A Few Hours Later}
Marcus slept peacefully and felt his father shake his arm. He slowly opened his eyes and seen their new home. It wasn't something too small. It was one story with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Money was tight for their family. Actually, Marcus' father had to borrow a lot of money from a close friend to divorce Katherine and move. His dad doesn't have a job at the moment because of the move. Marcus got out of the car and started walking inside. He opened the door and looked around the small house. "This will do. We don't need a huge house. Especially if it's just us two.", his father said as he started moving their suitcases in. They didn't have much furniture, since Katherine owned most of the stuff in their old house. The two things they did own were a couch and television. Only one, which would go in the living room. Marcus took his suitcases and went to a room. "Dad, what about the beds?", Marcus started to question. He walked back to the living room and found his father sleeping on the couch. All of that restless driving must've gotten to him., Marcus took a blanket out of his father's suitcase and laid it across him. He watched as his father became comfortable. "I guess I'll explore around the neighborhood.", he said before grabbing the key to the house from his father's pocket. He quietly exited and locked the front door behind him. He turned and was soon blasted in the face by the sun. Man, it's very bright and hot out here..., he took off his light sweater and started to walk around the neighborhood. It was actually a nice neighborhood, cute little kids, polite neighbors and even a park with its own basketball court. "Hey.", a sweet, soft voice greeted him. He slowly turned around and saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She had a light complexion with tiny freckles on her cheeks, hazel eyes, curly hair that was put into two puffs, and nice measurements. Marcus stared at the girl for a while, wondering why such a beautiful creature decided to speak to someone like him. It's not that he wasn't attractive, he was a little cute when you looked at him a certain angle. Only thing wrong was his horrible acne, wardrobe-- because he doesn't care about the new trends-- and his glasses, which were blocking his incredibly gorgeous brown eyes that went well with his light brown complexion."Aren't you going to speak..?", the girl asked as she gave him a confused look. "H-hi..", Marcus never spoke to anyone. He would always stay inside on his laptop like his father said. "My name is Makayla.", she smiled. "M-Marcus..", he slowly held his shaking hand out. She giggled and said, "You're cute... You must be new. I saw you and your dad move into the house down my street. So I guess we're like neighbors.", she smiled again showing her perfectly white teeth. "Hey, Makayla! Get back over here!", a voice yelled. Makayla turned to see her brother, Dashawn standing by his car. "Come on! We don't have all day!" Dashawn yelled. Makayla sighed and took Marcus' hand. She took out a black pen and slowly wrote her number down with the words: "call me <3". She winked at him and ran to her brother's car. After she got in, the car drove away insanely fast. Marcus looked at his hand and stared at the 10 digits. Maybe dad was right... I could start making a change, he thought.
