CHAPTER 4

The next day

Rose's POV

I don't go into school. Why should I? North sent word that he would tell Jack today so I need to be ready for him. Until he comes all shocked and filled with questions, I am to stay in my temple. I haven't really kept watch over the people because of North's dilemma with Pitch but I am today. O don't know why I care so much about the guardians. I'm not getting anything out of helping them, I'll just have to charge them when the news comes up front. After hours and hours of waiting, I feel him coming. Jack Frost, here he comes, filled with questions that need answers. He lands on the edge of my temple. "Jack Frost, I've been expecting you. And don't you know it's rude to charge into a person's temple? Especially mine! But I feel that's not why you're here. What are your questions for me? I will only answer those I feel the need to and will not answer any that I don't want to." He asked me a million questions a minute but I knew what I needed to explain. "Jack, if you'll shut up and listen, maybe I could explain what I need to. Yes I was in your school but only to keep watch of Pitch's son. And yes, Pitch has a son that is helping him get back at you and the other guardians. And no, none of this affects me. And yes, you need my help because of that. And no, I won't do it for free there's a price for my help. And yes, you need to find 3 others to help you defeat him and those 3 do go to your school. Anything else?" "Yes, what are you?" He asks me and I tell him. "Whoops, I wasn't supposed to tell you all that, after all I'm mad at you." I say sarcastically and turn away. "What? Why are you mad?" He asks. "Oh you act like you don't remember. We knew each other once, a lifetime ago. We fell in love, or at least I fell in love with you, and then you died. I could not grant you immortality, I would be punished to death my man in the moon because I used my powers on someone I loved, it's greed. But he said that you died a worthy death and would qualify as a guardian, but not yet. Now you are and you've gotten your memories back and nothing for me! How would you feel if you had to go forever falling in love with mortals and living with them as they grow old and die while you don't and all you can do is watching it happening even though you know what's going to happen?! That's my life Jack. I fall in love, they die, I move on. But I couldn't move on with you and I don't know why. If we were together again, we could live all of eternity together. No pain or loss of dying, it's inky eternity." I say. "Only eternity?" He asks. "Eternity isn't that long when you get to be my age. I'm about a million years old. Eh, give or take a few hundred years. I've sort of lost count." I say like its nothing, which it is nothing to me by now.

Jack's POV

I don't know what it is, but something feels right with her. I think all that she's saying is true. Her power, her life, us, it's all true. I'm starting to remember now! She was so amazing. But if she loved me and that was only about five hundred something years ago, then she was immortal when it happened! She has been through pain and a lot of it. I feel bad for her, falling in love while the mortal dies and she gets to live millions of years with that? It has to be hard. And I caused her some of that pain. I feel so bad, but I'm going to make it up to her. "Look, I'm here on business right now. North sent me to recruit you to help me and the other guardians and that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm sorry that I hurt you in the past but it's not my fault I died. Maybe one day I can make it up to you but for now, I need an answer." I said very seriously. "What's in it for me? I'm not affected by Pitch so none of this matters to me. Do you think I would just help you after how you hurt me? Even after you died you never said anything to me. Why would I help you? Unless...what's in it for me?" She asks with a quirk of her eyebrow and a small smirk on her face. "How about a kiss?" I say returning her smirk. "Are you always this cocky?" She asks and tries to hide her smile but I can see right through it. "I think you would know better than I do." I say. "Fine." She says defeated. "Cool, so a kiss in exchange for you helping me get these people and defeating Pitch." I say and was shocked when she shook her head no. "This is a two part mission it sounds like. I'll need a two part reward." She says. "A kiss and a date?" I ask. "Sure. Deal." She says with a mischievous smile.
