Amberfang's Destiny

Chapter 7

The days after the battle were long and hard. Lifestar had lost a life and he was weak. We kits escaped with bruises. Hazelfeather had given birth to two toms that night. Mudkit and Dustkit. 

One, early new-leaf morning, I became 6 moons old.

 "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the LifeRock for a clan meeting!"Lifestar yowled from the LifeRock. 

Starnose had groomed my fur so it shone. I swore I never had been so excited in my life back then. Tigerkit was bouncing around with excitement. Darkkit was being grumpy witch was a little off for me. Darkkit was always happy and calm.

 "Are you excited?"I had asked him that morning. He looked at me and glared. 

"What do you think."He snarled before stalking off towards Tigerkit. I stared after him in shock. He was always kind and gentle to me. 

'Who put a beetle in his fur?' I thought. The rest of the kits had been asleep when Starnose had woken me up. I felt bad that I would become an apprentice while they were sleeping. 

As the clan began to gather, Brittlekit poked his head out of the nursery. 

"What's going on?"He asked me. I had always thought that he seemed like a bad cat but, he was actually nice. I decided to tell him the truth and not send him to the deadly tongue of my brother. I thought it would be better to tell him so that he wouldn't feel betrayed when he found out the truth. 

"Me and my littermates are going to be made apprentices."I told him, making sure that I didn't sound like I was boasting about it. His tail dropped and trailing in the dust as he walked out of the warm den. 

"You guys are six moons old already."He said in disbelief before turning and walking towards my littermates.

 Tigerkit seemed excited to see him and Darkkit ignored him completely. Starnose nudged me into the small circle in front of the LifeRock and Darkkit and Tigerkit followed her a few heartbeats later. 

LifeStar looked down at them before letting his gaze fall on my mother and father. 

"Today we gather to witness the apprentice ceremony of Starnose and Ravenfeather's kits."He began. 

His gaze then swept over the crowd of warriors. His gaze settled on the group of new warriors. Speckledpaw, Eaglepaw, Volepaw, Mousepaw, Brindlepaw, and Emberpaw had become SpeckledDusk, EagleFeather, VoleFlight, MouseLeap, BrindleFrost, and EmberStone.

 He looked at SpeckledDust. "Darkkit, from this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Darkpaw. Your mentor shall be SpeckledDust. I trust that he will teach you his incredible battle skills and his quick witted thinking."LifeStar said.

 Darkpaw turned around to face the dappled tom. They touched noses and SpeckledDust lead him to the edge of the cats. 

LifeStar moved his gaze to a grey tom. "Tigerkit, from this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Tigerpaw. You mentor with be StormGaze. I trust that he will teach you his battle skills and his amazing hunting skills."LifeStar announced. 

The grey tom looked shocked but, he soon got over his shock and touched noses with my sister.

 I looked up at LifeStar, suddenly nervous. Who would he choose? Would they be nice? Will they like me? 

"Amberkit, from this moment forward, until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Amberpaw. Your mentor shall be CreamHeart. Share your strength and hunting skills with your new apprentice."LifeStar said, looking at the cream-colored deputy. 

The lean she-cat stood up from her spot beside the LifeRock and padded over to her. 

She leaned down and touches noses with me before laying her tail across my shoulders and guiding me to her spot beside the rock. "DarkPaw, Tigerpaw, AmberPaw! DarkPaw, TigerPaw, AmberPaw!"The clan yowled my apprentice name along with my siblings new names.

 I had finally begun my journey to be a warrior but, my journey was a long way from being over.
