The rain hammered on the roof, exaggerated by the heavy silence that had fallen upon the group.

George's mind was working at 100 miles an hour. Surely none of it was true, surely Sadie was just a messed up girl with some hefty issues. But things were starting to click in his mind, things were starting to make sense. The weird experiences he'd had over the last couple of days, and the dreams...

"Okay stop." Jess declared, as if she could tell George and the others were actually considering Sadie's announcement to be true. She turned to the brunette, eyes blazing with fury. "Who the hell do you think you are?"

Sadie smiled sarcastically. "Nice of you to ask, Jess. I'm Sadie, and I'm your Protector, which means that I've been given the task of training and educating you on your powers and abilities as the elementals of Edgewood." She folded her arms- a silent challenge for Jess to continue.

Which, being Jessica Barker, she did.

"Actually, you're completely insane." She stood up. " And I'm not wasting any more of my time in some diner listening to a lunatic tell me that I have bloody superpowers!" She was yelling at Sadie by the time she finished, the smirk on the brunette's face was only making her more furious. Throwing one last viscous look at George and the boys, Jess stormed towards the door.

Sadie's smirk suddenly dropped, panic flying across her face. "Jess, wait." She kept walking. "You know that it was you that caused the whole thing with the teacher this morning."Jess stopped abruptly. George held his breath.

Sadie continued, "You know that it was you and your powers which caused a person to be injured-" Jess spun around.

"I didn't cause anything!" She shouted, brown eyes brimming with tears. George had never seen her so out of control. "How is it possible for-I had no control over anything that bird did, and-and there's no way in hell I intended for her or anyone else to get hurt."

The tension in the room was electric. The three boys were silent.

"I know you didn't." Sadie said quietly. "You didn't know how to control it. But that's what I'm here for." She took a step towards Jess's quivering figure. The calmness in her voice shook something inside of George. It broke the casing of shock his body and mind were trapped in.

He took a step forward suddenly, heart pounding. The others all looked at him, waiting for what he had to say, but George had nothing. He shook his head, looking down. "It can't be true," he mumbled.

Sadie sighed, again. "Look I can prove it to you." All four eyes flickered to her."Just all of you sit down and let me talk." George slumped into the seat opposite Harrison and Arlo, feeling defeated. He felt Jess's weight on the leather beside him. Out of the corner of his eye he saw her quickly wipe the tears from her eyes.

At that moment, the kitchen doors swung open, and the lady who had served George bustled out with the coffee he had completely forgotten about.

"Sadie!" She greeted the standing teenage girl, passing the steaming cup over to George. "How are you, my dear? How's it all going?" She clasped her hands in excitement, surveying the overwhelmed expressions of the four teenagers.

"Ah, we're getting there." Sadie pressed her lips tightly together, grimacing knowingly at the woman, who made a gleeful noise.

"I remember my Reveal like it was yesterday." She smiled fondly at the uncomfortable teenagers.

The reality of what was happening suddenly hit George. If what Sadie was saying was true and if the whole supernatural thing was real, then his life was about to change. Really change. Change a lot.
