Does it matter?

Chapter 1

Tobin's POV

"Tobin!! Lets go and watch Sky Blue FC's game against Orlando Pride after school" Hope asked again for the sixth time this week. Hope Solo is my best friend and my soccer teammate. We have known each other since young and we have been there for each other since. Hope is probably the only person that I have opened up to after growing through all the series of shit in my growing up years. Since she is my best friend, I had no choice but to agree to accompany her to the softball game later on. I have been to several Sky Blue FC's game with her and I totally think that she has a crush on the girl wearing the #19 jersey. That girl is most likely the reason why Hope has been wanting to go to all the softball matches. I'm glad that my buddy has finally found someone that she is interested in but it has already been a month yet Hope doesn't even know her name. Dude, she has to step up her game.

After school that day, Hope waited for me outside my classroom and dragged me out of school immediately. We hopped on a cab and within 30 minutes, we reached the field. We managed to secure a good seat at the front row and Hope started freaking out once she spotted her crush, #19. She went on talking about how beautiful and cute #19 looked. I think that Hope, the tall badass goalkeeper would look good together with the tiny cutesy softball girl.

Soon, the game started. Sky Blue FC was up to bat first. The first two batters didn't manage to get on base as both of their hits went to the shortstop #13 and she swiftly threw them out. This shortstop's skills are very impressive. The next batter at bat was Sky Blue's #19. Hope was so anxious for the freckled girl. #19 swung hard at the ball coming towards her and sent the ball straight to the shortstop. The shortstop dived forward and caught the ball and ended the first inning. Wow, that shortstop is really something.

For the rest of the game, Orlando Pride's shortstop had my full attention and admiration. Throughout the game, she performed very well, leading her team to victory. There is just something about her that fascinates me. I knew right then that I would like to know her better. Hope realized that i was staring at #13 and started to tease me. I felt so embarrassed as this is my first time having a crush on someone after I ended my previous relationship badly. In order to save myself from getting embarrassed more, I quickly made Hope the main topic of our conversation. I started convincing Hope to man up and ask #19 out. She hesitantly agreed to finally make a move before we head back home. We walked towards Sky Blue FC's dugout where #19 was.

On the way there, we walked passed Orlando Pride's dugout and I saw the beautiful #13 talking to her teammate, the catcher. Oh my gosh, she literally took my breath away. Her eyes were so mesmerising. Her smile was so sweet. I briefly had a short eye contact with her and I swear that she smiled at me. My heart was exploding at that moment. I felt so alive. This girl is something man. To my dismay, nothing happened between us that day. I didn't manage to talk to her. I wanted to ask her for a photo so badly but I let that opportunity slipped. I was killing myself internally for that. I have just missed a perfect chance to know someone so beautiful like her.

As for Hope, she was lucky that #19 agreed to hang out with her that weekend. They had a short conversation at the side and they exchanged numbers at the end. Hope found out that #19's name was Kelley O'Hara and she is 18 that year. Hope and Kelley have been texting each other since and they have planned to go for lunch together on Saturday afternoon. They have decided to ask their best friends along as they were too shy to meet each other one on one. I can't wait to be third wheeling with Kelley's best friend this Saturday.
