Aaliyah
31 days until Graduation...
There was exactly a month before graduation. I hadn't put much thought into what I really wanted. Mom on the other hand had loads of ideas for me. College wasn't really in my bucket list. I didn't really want to leave high school. College was scary, losing my high school friends, not being able to be with Cameron all the time, not to mention student loans and rent.
Cameron dropped by to drive me to school, as always his car was in a pristine condition, sometimes it was as if he loved that car more than he loved me.
During lunch time, there was a 3 hour break due to maintenance issues in the school. I sat down with my friends at the football field as we created our plans for the Summer Senior Fest. The Summer Senior Fest is one of the most awaited events that only seniors could attend. The last event was before graduation which was the Summer Ball. This year's theme was "Whimsical Summer Spectacular". If you didn't pay attention to the cheesy theme that they made, it was actually something magical according to Avril who was in the program committee.
The setup was simple but the plan was a little complicated. But even if I didn't win, I'd still make the most of that night. What was difficult was beating my competition. The only threat to me was Jane Shelby. According to everyone else in the school, she had everything, a hot body, perfect facial features, boys who were practically slaves to her, and of course the popularity hat came with being the cheer captain. She had all but the one thing that she's always wanted, Cameron Dallas who happens to be my extremely loyal boyfriend.
Other than my plan for the Summer Senior Fest, I was also planning my last month of senior high. I'd thought of all the fun, crazy, and wild things I've always wanted to do, kind of like a senior bucket list. One of those things happened to be auditioning for the cheer squad. Embarrassingly, I admit to have auditioned in the past but I didn't make it. I was a freshman back then but maybe this time I could get in, I could maybe even beat Jane at her own game.
When the guys decided to hang out together, leaving us girls (and Shawn) to hang out when I noticed the cheer squad practicing. Jane had no chill and was yelling at all of them for not doing good enough. I, being the crazy person I am, decided to audition out of nowhere.
Avril almost stopped me, Kate urged me to go on, Shawn kept quiet, while Theresa laughed. "Hey Jane!" I yelled as I approached.
"Hey, Aaliyah, what's up?" She did her fake sweet act.
"I was wondering if maybe I could audition." I said confidently.
"Oh, is that so?" She said, attempting to be intimidating.
"Let her try." Said Nancy, one of Jane's sassy friends.
"Alright, show us what you got, it won't hurt to try but I'm just saying, you may not have enough attitude to be a cheerleader." She said with her head held high.
Someone turned on the radio and I was unprepared. Great. But all I had to do was create some kind of dance and do a couple minor stunts.
I tried my best to dance but somehow I looked like I was doing a weird kind of dance that I had no idea where I got, but I just had fun with it.
"You're so behind on choreography, what were you even dancing? Hotline bling?" The other cheerleaders laughed as a response to Jane's remark.
"Why not give us a cheer?" Poppy, the third girl in Jane's posse, said as a joke.
"You know what? Why not? She already lost her dignity with that dance anyway." Jane laughed.
"I can't believe Cameron chose her over you, Jane." Nancy said.
Alright to say I was furious was a complete understatement, but I'd only lose my dignity even more if I attacked her. Instead, I picked up the pom poms tossed at me and made my own cheer.
"Oh how I love his teeth.
Oh his hair, how I love his hair.
His face is so perfect, and I just want him in my bed to tonight. Yeah
Cameron Dallas, he's my boyfriend, oh I love him so. You can't have him cause he's all my own, it's Cameron Dallas. He's my boyfriend not yours so deal with it." I sang in a cheerful and loud tone while doing a little dance.Jane was speechless but quickly recovered and put on her bitch face. "You're just not good enough."
"For Cameron I am." I smiled, dropping the pom poms, I left only to be approached by my friends.
"Okay, that was amazing!" Kate said.
