-Miles' POV-
"Merry Christmas, Miles!" Kerry yells. He's my best friend, and we also work together at the same company: RoosterTeeth. Our "official" title is 'animators' but we mostly play around on our video games. We absolutely have not started on our number one show, Red vs. Blue, yet.
I throw my head back. I sigh heavily, not excited for this day at all. "Merry Christmas, Kerry." I say, plainly. I'm going to be alone. My parents didn't invite me this year to their house, and my brother is at our parents' house. My friends all have their own plans, and I don't have a girlfriend to spend Christmas with. This is going to be great.
Small hands cover my eyes. "Psst, merry Christmas Miles!" A small voice says. It's Mira, my crus- I mean, coworker. Awkward.
She pulls her hands away and I turn in my chair to look at her. Her small frame overwhelms me, for I am in a chair and she is standing. Her long, dark brown hair is flowing in natural waves down her back. Her beautiful lips are curled into a small smile. I see her beautiful green eyes looking into my brown ones. She plops onto my lap. "Merry Christmas, Mira." I say, smiling at her. She smiles back. Her smile could light up the room.
I turn us around in My chair and go back to editing my animated series, RWBY. "Whatcha doin for Christmas?" She asks, turning to face me, and wrapping her arms around my neck.
"I- uh, I'm spending it... Alone... At my house... Probably playing video games and getting drunk..." I say, trailing off. I don't want her to get involved in my life, but I could use someone to spend Christmas with...
"Oh, Miles, I'm so sorry. I didn't know. But, hey, we'll both be alone for Christmas." She says, smiling to try to lighten the mood. I look at her quizzically. "My, uh, my parents died a few years ago. My sister and her family are back in Arizona, and... They didn't invite me." She continues. She looks down. I go to comfort her but she perks back up. "Well, what can ya do, Am I right?" She laughs. She hops off me and goes to my side. "See ya next week!" She kisses my cheek.
I've liked her for some time. She's really pretty and she's funny and adorable and I can't get over just how perfect she is. But I don't think she sees me the same way.
The clock strikes 5 and I save and log off my laptop. I place it in my bag and walk out into the freezing cold air and snow. I get into my car. I drive to my apartment and open the front door. I place my bag on the counter and change out of the jeans and coat I'm wearing and into some flannel pants. I get a glass of water from my fridge and sit on the couch. I grab the Xbox controller from the table and load up Call of Duty. I see a familiar name pop up.

I hook up my headset and we chatted amongst the voice chat for a few minutes while the game loaded. As I'm talking to her, I look over at my pathetic little tabletop Christmas tree. I have just a few presents under it, one being Mira's. I wasn't sure when to give it to her though. Why was I so scared to give it to her? I mean, it's just a friendly gesture, right?
"You home alone?" She asks.
"Of course. I have nowhere better to be." I reply. I hear silence on the other end. The game loads and we choose our class. We're on the same team. We play together, switching between games until Midnight.
"I'm gonna head to bed. You should get some sleep too. I know how you've been losing sleep over your show." She says, genuinely concerned. She's always so concerned over me, and I have never found out why.
"Yeah. I probably will. Good night, Mira."
"Good night, Miles."
