"So, um, hi, I guess. This is the first time I've ever done this so bear with me. to whoever is reading this, I congratulate you. You survived! Yay! Now you and whoever survived with you can start to re-build humanity. But first, you should know what happened. The epidemic that ultimately ended humanity as we knew it started with one person getting a really bad cough. Before we knew it, everyone had this strange and mysterious cough. The virus seemed like a widespread common cold. The people would get coughing spasms that would shake their entire bodies. The spasms would last two - three minutes each, and leave the person weak. Day by day they would get paler and paler, their heart-rates dropping steadily. The virus, although unknown in origin, slowly ate their organs from the inside out. By the time they "died", all that was left was their brains. What we didn't know at the time was that the only reason they couldn't devour that was because they couldn't break through the neurological connections that wrap around the brain, allowing it to function the way it does. So instead of devouring it, the virus took over. It was like the Black Death all over again. Dead, decaying bodies littered the streets, loved ones in mourning for those lost. Then, when they thought no one was watching, the corpses would get up and walk off. The next time people saw the piles, they wouldn't question the missing bodies, thinking they had finally found a place to set them to final rest. That is until one little girl saw her mommy get up. She ran up to her, calling out 'Mommy! Mommy! I'm so glad you're okay!' I watched in horror when the little girl got to her mother, for she reached down and bit the poor child. The little one ran off screaming and I caught a brief glimpse of her arm where she was bit, and I still haven't been able to release that memory from my subconscious. The flesh around the bite mark had started to decay immediately. I also saw there was a tooth stuck in the open wound. I must've gasped, because the mother turned to me and started to run at me. It was slow and it seemed like she were carrying a large and awkward package. It seemed as if the virus hadn't yet learned to control the mother's limbs. I turned and sprinted down the street, catching the attention of more corpses and they joined the chase, hopeful of fresh meat. They chased me into an abandoned office building. Hiding in the farthest cubical, I could hear them searching through the other cubicles. I was trapped. If they found me, I would've been turned. But something else caught their attention and they ran off. Ten seconds after they left, I released the breath I hadn't even know I was holding. I stood up, my legs feeling cramped from crouching in the corner for the past ten minutes. After checking to make sure the building was all clear, I moved to the roof. Standing there, the wind blew, my hair caressing my face. It curled and twisted, framing my face in a beautiful mass of blonde waves. Looking out over the city made me realize just how alone I was out there. The last human on earth. I went back into the office building to figure out my next move. Finding something to eat will be harder than escaping those mindless viruses. I have to get something to eat before I starve. I found a convenience store a few doors down from where I was hiding out. I just have to avoid the corpses. Wish me luck!
This is Amy Rose signing off for now... if I survive."
