22 December
It snowed today, I watched it through my small window as it covered the landscape in a velvety white blanket . Its been so long since I've seen the snow. Things were different back then, I was a different person. Before that fateful night when I lost everything.
So much happened that night in the space of only a few short hours. I remember it like it was yesterday, although I am desperate to forget. I'd had an argument with someone at a party so I'd left early. I remember Galen following me home wanting to make sure I was okay, he never liked to see me cry.
I remember my neighbor looking at me with pity on her face telling me she was sorry as I got out my car. I noticed my front door was slightly ajar but I knew I'd locked it before I left. I entered cautiously bracing my self for anything but what happened really shocked me. Someone grabbed me from behind and I screamed.
"Not another sound"my attacker growls covering my mouth with his hand."I'm really sorry princess" a familiar voice says "this isn't personal, I'm just doing my job" a blade is pressed against my throat and I let out a muffled scream just as Galen burst through the door alerted by my first scream. "Let her go"he growls at my attacker his eyes flashing red. I didn't believe that happened at first because it's impossible for eyes to do that but now with everything I've learnt nothing is impossible.
My attacker pushed me to the ground and rushed at Galen brandishing his knife and catching Galen on his shoulder." No" I screamed. I remember Galen chaser the man away and taking me to the hospital.
The doctors said I would be fine but they wanted to keep me in over night to make sure I didn't have a concussion then they took Galen out the room to talk. "Goodnight darlin' " he whispers walking back into the room. I don't know why but I pretend to be asleep instead of acknowledging him "you'll be safe now, I won't let him hurt you I promise " the he presses the lightest kiss to my lips before leaving.
So much has happened since then, I learnt who I was who that man was, why he was after me and that he and others would continue trying to kill me. So I've been moved from safe house to safe house, always on the move but I haven't seen Galen since that night.
I miss him so much. He was my best friend although my feelings for him went so much deeper than that . He's always been there for me and I know it's cliché but if fallen in love with my best friend and I haven't seen him in two years.

(Present time)
Closing my journal I continue looking out the window as the white powder falls from the sky." You okay Celeste?" River, my guard asks.
"Yeah I'm fine, I just... I miss him, we spent every Christmas together, last year I didn't really celebrate so it didn't hurt so much but now..."
"Writing things down will help" she says " I know you miss him and if I knew where he was I'd bring him here or take you to him but I can't. I know how hard it is to be away from the one you are spirit bound to. The longer you're apart the more empty you feel inside."
"Spirit bound?" I ask not understanding
"when you find your true love your spirit bonds with theirs. Its not something most royal fae experience because they're usually forced into arranged marriages. That's what happened to your parents, they we're spirit bound but the council and their parents tried to force them to marry other people so they ran away. Most of the fae were against the forced marriages because spirit bounds shouldn't be kept apart."
"What happened to my parents?"
"No one knows, most think that they're dead"
"Oh, so you think Galen and I are spirit bound?"
"Yeah, I can see it "
"You can see it?"
"Many fae are gifted, with many varying abilities, mine is the gift of seeing auras and energies and I can see part of his spirit mixed with yours. Which means he loves you just as much as you love him" hearing that gave me such hope that I couldn't help the smile that lit up my face.
"You have a spirit bound to don't you?" I ask her and her face lights up "I'll make you a deal princess" she grins " if you practice your magic while I'm at the store I'll tell you all about my spirit bound and you can tell me all about your Galen while we stuff our faces with cookies"
"Deal although I think your are only doing this because you want me to make you cookies "
"You caught me" she laughs but then her expression turns serious "but you still have to practice"
"I will " I tell her "and you be careful the storms closing in and who knows who you'll run into" I give her a quick hug.
"Be back soon "she calls out the door"
"Bring me mini marshmallows " I call "I'm on it " she replies.
An hour later
Rivers been gone an hour, I've practiced and there is a batch of cookies in the oven and I'm worried the snow is falling hard and fast and if she doesn't get back soon she'll be snowed in and this storm is meant to go on for a few days.
To distract my self I keep busy tidying up the odds and ends, putting the books back on the shelf. By the time I'm done the house is spotless and there is another batch of cookies in the oven. And Rivers been gone for two hours and I still have not heard from her. While the cookies are in the oven I get out the ingredients for cupcakes because it's Christmas in a few days and we are having guests over , well that, and because if there's one thing you should know about me its that when I'm stressed or worried, I bake.
An hour and a half later I've made sugar cookies, iced the cupcakes made two different cakes and made a batch of my secret recipe chic chip nutella fudge Brownies and cleaned up all the mess. Suddenly my phone goes off and I rush to pick it up.it's a call from an unknown number.
"Hello" I answer
"Hey Celeste it's me, just wanted to let you know I'm fine but I'm snowed in, I've found a place to stay and I'll be back on Christmas Eve, also my phones broken which is why I haven't called"
"Okay, well I'm glad you are alright "
"Also I'll be bringing some people with me when I return, but I've gotta go now so I'll call you tomorrow "
"Okay well bye River "
With that the line goes dead and I collapse on the couch with a sigh. "Who could she possibly be bringing with her" I say to my self before heading upstairs to my room and falling back on my bed with a sigh.
Clutching the small silver heart shaped locket that I got for my birthday years ago from my "father" I take the small folded slip of paper out and read it once more.
"Forget the past don't think about the future, live in the moment, for only then will you be truly happy"

It was a note I'd found on my porch one day after we'd fought
It was wrapped around a singe blood red rose. Clutching it to my chest I let the tears I've been holding in since that night fall.
I could never do it when River was around, Galen was the only one who ever saw me cry. "I hope you're safe" I whisper "and I hope you'll come back to me"
