I know this woman who's so beautiful and strong,
But when she looks in the mirror. her image is all wrong.
She stares and stares, as the mirror glares back,
"You're worthless" it spats, a verbal attack.
The woman whimpers as the mirror goes on,
"You're fat and ugly. You have wrinkles too,
I've never seen someone as hideous as you."
She's spending thousands of dollars today,
On facial lifts and liposuction,
She's living underweight and poor,
But doesn't notice the destruction.
She's At War With The Mirror.I know this young girl who's so pretty and kind,
But the mirror picks out every flaw it can find.
"You're not tall enough and your behind is too flat,
How can you even go out looking like that?"She's skipping dinner to look "model thin",
Anything to feel comfortable in her own skin.
She can't look at herself without feeling hate,
She's destroying herself but they notice too late.
She's At War With The Mirror
I've fought with this mirror almost all of my life, those negative thoughts that cut like a knife.
But please believe me when I say, that it doesn't have to be this way;
I challenge you to look in the mirror with your chin up high,
And your middle finger up even higher,
'Cause fuck what society thinksSociety is the liar.
Put on a smile and work with what you got,
Because I swear anyone can pull off "sexy" or "hot".Tomorrow when you look at your reflection,
Look at yourself with no fear,
You're strong and beautiful with your smile so fierce,
You've won the war with the mirror.

I really hope this means something to you, because this poem means a lot to me. Remember that every body is beautiful, and no flaw defines who you are. I'd also like to add that even though I didn't mention a guy struggling with the mirror, this poem doesn't just go out to the ladies. I know guys suffer with insecurites as well, and I dedicate this poem to anyone who's "been at war with the mirror".-Effy
