I awoke to the sound of my mother calling me, I'd much rather have an alarm clock wake me but I guess momma Summer works. I mean they're both pretty annoying so..
"Kiera, do not make me come up there. I mean it" she calls. I think I'll just pretend to be asleep and she might leave me alone to sleep, I slow my breathing down to make things more realistic of course,
"Kiera maybe next time keep your thoughts to yourself, you said that out loud you idiot." she chuckles "I'm off to work, see you at 6, love you honey. Oh and you better get up it's 6:10am" she shouts from downstairs "Okay momma Summer, love you too" I scream.
I slowly get out of bed and hobble over to open my curtains. The light, it burns. Holy cow I'm about to go blind. I may or may not be exaggerating. I attempt to pick myself back up from falling, after many attempts I just crawl over to my closet and pull out some sweats and a hoodie. Lazy clothes I like to call them.I crawl into the bathroom and apply very little makeup, and I brush my teeth, morning breath sucks. It's the most disturbing thing ever. I glance at my phone to check the time, is it seriously only 6:20. Classes don't start till, like 7:10. I'll just start walking then, slowly. That should work.
I slid down the railing of the stairs and walk out the door, I only notice how cold it is when I remember I forgot a jacket, but I'm already like half way there, I plug in my earphones and start listening to Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When Your High.
By the time I reach the school it's 6:35, great fifty five minutes early. The school seems to be rather crowded at this time, it's really unusual. It doesn't start getting busy until around 7. I notice a police officer standing among the crowd of students, with a sad look on his face. He glances around until his eyes land of me.
"Miss Summers, there you are. May I speak to you? Alone please.." Before allowing me to answer he begins walking towards the flower garden. Yes, I know how stupid, a flower garden in a school. It's actually rather peaceful, to be honest. I like coming out here when times are low. I became suspicious of why the police officer wanted to speak to me.
"Not to sound rude Sir, but why do you need to speak to me?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. He turns to look at me, "Miss Summers, There's been an accident." He says slowly. My first thoughts go to my mom, she was always a careful driver so I didn't think it was her. "Involving who?" I ask. "Miss Summers, I'm sorry but your mother was involved in the accident, a truck began spinning out of control due to the ice on the road, and he collided with your mother." He says looking at the flowers with sad eyes. He continues "She died on impact, the driver of the truck is in a coma at the moment. Your mom is at the Texas Universal Hospital, if you would like me to drive you there, so you can see I wouldn't mind" he says, "Thank you, but right now I think I need to allow this just to sink in. I begin walking back to the school.
"Oh, Miss Summers, since sadly both your parents have passed away..the next person to become your guardian would be..Miss Caroline Evans, she was your mothers best-friend during her highschool & college years." He says with a sad smile, I had never heard of this Caroline Evans. "Does she live here?" I ask, He shakes his head "No she lives in California. With her five sons." He replies.
