That night, Papyrus gladly helped you clean a bit while jabbering on about the Royal Guard and some of his friends, allowing for constant conversation and not one dull moment. Sans didn't speak at all unless spoken to, yet he was always close as his brother and yourself chatted. You asked questions about what the Royal Guard was and were told in great detail- along with how amazing of a member he was- along with a bunch of things that you didn't really need to know.

After locking up, the two skeletons walked you home that night, the cold air stirring with Papyrus's confident conversation and your laughs. You stood in the middle with Sans standing closest to the quiet street, hands shoved in his pockets as he seemed to be off in his own world. He didn't even say anything when Papyrus complained about how messy he was, causing you to immediately think something was wrong. Of course, you never had the chance to ask and probably wouldn't either way, yet it kept nagging at you every time you smiled at something the other said.

Finally reaching your porch, you stood in front of your steps preparing to bid them farewell. "Well, Papyrus, it was really nice meeting you. Good luck with the Royal Guard! And don't let me forget to try your spaghetti sometime."

"THANK YOU, HUMAN!" Papyrus exclaimed, a proud grin on his face as he added, "THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF SPAGHETTI ON CHRISTMAS, NO NEED TO WORRY!"

Giving him one last smile, you then turned to Sans, not surprised to see him smiling back. He was always smiling, but you could almost always tell when it was genuine at this point. You couldn't help but feel a bit relieved by this, the smile on your face only growing. "So, I'll see you tomorrow. Bright and early?"

"am i ever late?" Sans joked, causing you to roll my eyes. You were ready to turn around and head inside when Sans leaned in close beside your ear. Your eyes widened with shock, anticipating what was going to happen. He waited for what felt like a thousand years before whispering, "i'd watch out for that spaghetti if i were you." With that, he leaned away and started off down the street with Papyrus, leaving you standing shocked in front of your home. You would've stayed there all night with your eyes wide and mouth hanging open if it wasn't for the chilly breeze bringing you back to your senses.

The week seemed to go by in long strides, Christmas grew closer as the days went on even though those days felt like years. Everything was upside down, you discovered, as you were constantly running around in the restaurant and also trying to get the last of your presents out before the holiday. You stressed helplessly over getting something suitable for the brothers, not wanting to disappoint but also not able to think of anything suitable. You asked Sans about it, but he instructed you not to worry about it which didn't help at all.

Sans had been a bit strange throughout the week as well, arriving almost on time and hardly ever leaving for a break, you weren't sure what to think at all. A part of you wanted to believe he was sticking around to spend time with you, though you were pretty certain that was ridiculous. If it weren't for all the puns, you would think it was a different adorable skeleton.

That very skeleton in question looked over to you in that second, causing you to glance back down to your sweeping as you closed shop, trying to pretend that you weren't looking at him. Hoping that he couldn't read thoughts, you tried to make the dust and other garbage into a small pile before you, trying to keep your mind off the fact that he was definitely staring at you. There truly wasn't any reason for you to be so overwhelmingly self-conscious, but you couldn't help it.

"hey, (Y/N)?" Sans finally asked as your small junk mountain was complete, causing you to jump a little even though you were expecting it.

Looking up from the floor with a polite smile, your eyebrows raised a bit in question as you replied, "Hm?" Your heart was racing in your chest as anxiety coursed through you, wondering what it was he could say. Sure, it could be nothing, though maybe he had realized how you've been acting a little awkward or how you've been looking a little nicer this past week. Or maybe he wanted to tell you that he decided you couldn't come over for Christmas even though it was Christmas Eve and Papyrus had been calling every night to remind you how excited he was.
