I watched the brown eyes I once called my safe haven look at me through the window of a police car as it drove away. The tires kicked up sand as they went. I watched the car disappear along with Beck. I never wanted to see him again, and I had good reason to not want to. He kidnapped Sam.

"Jane Donald?" I heard an official sounding voice ask from behind me. I turned around to find a young--twenty three or twenty four--African American looking at me. He had on a Florida State Police uniform. His notepad was out and he had a pen in his hand.

"Can I get a statement from you?"

"Yeah, sure."

"How did you know the culprit?

"He's my ex boyfriend. He followed me here from Michigan. His name is Beck Anderson."

"When did you notify the police?"

"After I found the letter confessing to abducting Samantha. My boyfriend Carter called the police since I was at his apartment."

"How did you find the letter?"

"My friends and I were playing a game then there was a knock on the door. I went to answer it but there was no one there. There was the letter in an envelope sitting on the doorstep."

"Do you have the letter?"

"Yeah..." I pulled the piece of paper out of my pocket. It was all

crinkled, but the police officer took it anyway.

"How did you know he'd be here?" I looked around the beach and at the lighthouse Beck had been keeping Sam in.

"I went on a date with Carter here. It just made sense."

"Thanks for the information, Jane, you've been a great help." He walked away talking on his radio. Carter came up to me and smiled.

"She's alright. She's talking to some psychiatrists right now and they reported that she's fine, just a little shook up."

"I wonder why he went crazy..." I wondered aloud.

"Everyone does," Carter replied. I looked out into the distance. The sun was breaking over the horizon as the it rose on a Thursday morning.

"No, it was just like one day, he snapped. I don't understand why. Is Kassi alright?" I asked.

"I think we're all just a little scared right now. Especially Sam."

"Yeah, but I think we'll make it through." He smiled.

"I do too. Look, I probably have to make some phone calls. I'll be back, okay?" He kissed my cheek and smiled at me again.

I started walking away from the lighthouse, letting my toes occasionally get hit by the water as I went over the insane situation in my mind.

Sam was abducted by Beck. He took her to the beach that Carter and I had a date on, and he hid her in the lighthouse. We called the cops and they didn't know where she was taken. I suggested the beach. They went and witnessed that Beck was holding her on the lighthouse. They didn't know how to extract Sam without killing Beck or getting Sam killed. A psycho on the loose isn't something that's taken lightly. They sent in a few officers and brought me in as a bartering chip.

"I knew you'd come," the brunette said to me. His light brown hair cascaded to the ends of his ear lobes. His facial bone structure was pleasing to the eye, but once you got to know him, he was crazy. Absolutely insane. I had no idea why.

I had to act like I wanted him back.

"Why wouldn't I?" I asked in a small voice with a smile. I'd always been a great actress, or so I'd been told.
