Distant Memory

Lisa smiled peacefully as the breeze went through her blond locks. She had always loved the feel of the wind. Though it could bring great disasters, it could also bring a sense of serenity that had been lost long ago. Her green eyes gazed up towards the night sky, focusing on the brightest stars in the sky. Why were the brightest always called the prettiest? Beauty couldn't be defined, so why was beauty depicted as perfection? It never made sense to her, and she always wondered how someone could think like that.

The teen peered over the railing of the balcony, craning her neck to see the lake hidden by green leaves. To no avail did she see it. Lisa closed her eyes and listened to the wind's tuneless song, it was like a sorrowful melody only being heard by those who knew of the sadness. Lisa let a sigh escape her lips as she began thinking of something.

Thump, thump, thump. The sound of her heart was  trying to block out the sound of a harsh voice. The girl's eyes were trained on the carpet, hoping she wouldn't have to meet those gray eyes.

Lisa felt tears build up within her eyes, like on that same day. The youth quickly closed her eyes, praying that it would help with not letting the tears fall. She could see the swirls of colors form a picture as she tried to push out the memory.

Not now, she shouldn't be thinking of it now. She could already see his face though, his sad, angry face.

She could hear his footsteps getting closer and closer, her heart started beating even louder. Why was she so scared? Why was she scared of what would happen? It shouldn't have meant anything, right? Then, the man was right in front of her. Towering over her like a giant, but still her eyes were trained on the red carpeting.

"Why?" His voice sounded like a broken record. "Why didn't you tell anyone?" he asked with a voice that sounded as if he was trying not to weep.

The teen only shook her head and tried to push passed him, but she was feeling weak and shook violently. Still, she tried to get away and run from her problems. In a more literal manner, that is. Suddenly, she had the urge to start bawling like a baby. "Please," she began. "don't question what I do. I know my actions may not make sense, but don't you do stupid things when you're afraid?"

No, she didn't want a rerun! Lisa didn't want to recall anything, not when there was a peaceful silence securing her from the cruel world at the moment. So, why was she remembering when she didn't want to? Her past wasn't something to look forward to, it just wasn't. Crying wouldn't help either.

"Look at me, please look at me."  Her eyes unconsciously made their to his face.

Time didn't stop, but seemed like it did. His face was crestfallen and the juvenile wanted nothing more than to make him laugh. His gray eyes held an underlying forlorn look to them, as if he had been hiding his emotions from her for a long time.

"I don't want this."

Lisa's eyes flew open and she told herself over and over again that it was just a memory, that it would never happen again. The girl looked up towards the sky, wishing it would take her mind off of things. His words somehow crept back into her mind.

She pushed passed him and ran from the room, tears streaming down her face. "Don't you ever want to stop running away!?"

Lisa fell to the ground, but held back the sobs. Never again would she cry, she had to forget. No one would ever come into her life again and try to change things around. Simply because they could never be changed.
