Niall's POV
"Look, babe, I can tell you're upset. And I'm so sorry. I wish fans didnt do that..." I said resting my hand on Delilah's leg as I kept hold of the steering wheel with the other.
"Two hands on the wheel!" She said in a panicked tone.
I sighed and brought my hand back up to the wheel again.
"And I'm not upset..." She trailed off.
"We've been dating for three yea-" I sighed but she cut me off.
"...three and a half." She mumbled.
I started my sentence over again, correcting my mistake.
"We've been dating for three and a half years. I think I can tell when you're upset."
"I don't want to talk about this. Just take me home."
After that the ride was silent. Thank God it didn't take that long to get back to my flat because in a few minutes I was pulling in the drive way and parking the car.
Delilah immediately opened the car door and jumped out, slamming the door behind her.
I took my time taking my keys out of the ignition, unbuckling my seatbelt, and opening my door. I soon got out of the car a hopped up the steps to the porch where she fumbled with her keys in a rush to get the door opened.
"Could you please be gentler when you close the door next time. That's not a cheap car, you know?" I said in my regular tone of voice.
She quickly turned her head around to glare at me before tuning back around and mumbling "whatever". She finally found the right key and she stuck it into the keyhole on the door. I took a step closer to her and I think I made her nervous because she picked up her speed and cranked the key so the door would unlock.
She quickly swung the door open and rushed inside. I chuckled.
I noticed that she didn't stop at the door to take her shoes off. She just darted inside to get away from me as fast as possible. I still took my time and walked in the front door that she left open for me. I locked it behind me and pulled off my shoes while letting out a yawn.
I slowly walked down the hallway past the living room, dining room, and kitchen to the stair case. I watched as she was at the top of the stairs when I had just stepped on the bottom step. I picked up my pace just a little so I could reach the top of the stair case in time to know which room she's going in. I reached the top of the stairs and saw that she was headed towards our bedroom at the end of the hallway.
"Woah, wait! Delilah!" I said racing after her, knowing she would lock me out of our room.
She started running too. She opened the door and slammed it behind her. And just when I reached it, I heard the clicking of the lock. I sighed before I started banging my fist against the door.
"Delilah! Please let me in! Please talk to me..."
No response.
"At least let me know what's on your mind!" I begged.
"Please...?" I pleaded with guilt in my chest.
The contact with my fist and the door became lighter and softer soon after that.
I then decided to stop pounding and shouting and just sit down against the door and wait.
"I'll wait out here all night, Lila." I whispered, but loud enough for her to hear.
I heard her hushed voice, but she wasn't talking. She was crying.
"Babe, don't cry. Why are you crying?"
Her sobs got louder and I knew that nothing I said would help to make her feel better.
After a few minutes of silently listening to her cry through the door, I spoke up.
"I'll be downstairs sleeping on the couch if you need me."
I stood up from where I was sitting and sighed before starting to walk down the hallway.
I stopped when I heard some movement beyond the bedroom door.
I turned around when I heard the door click and open, revealing a teary-eyed Delilah.
She sniffled and sighed.
I slowly walked back over to her, unsure of what else to do. There was now about a foot between us. "Are you alright?" I asked.
More tears became prominent in her eyes. She shook her head.
I stepped forward, closing the gap in between us.
I wrapped my arms around her small, fragile body and sighed.
She started crying again and I had to take all my will power to not cry with her.
"I-I'm sorry..." She mumbled against my shirt.
I nodded and picked her up bridal style and carried her inside our room. She was still crying as I set her on the bed and lied down next to her, wrapping my arms around her again.
"I'm such a terrible girlfriend. I must confuse you so much..." She sighed.
I chuckled. "What makes you say that?"
"Well, you probably never understand me when I do things like this to you. I don't understand myself most of the time to be honest..." She whispered.
"Tell me what's on your mind. I'll understand." I said sincerely.
She took a moment to think, but then spoke up.
"You. Me....Us."
"What about us?"
".....ugh I don't know! I just can't help but think a lot about it lately..."
"Think about what? What are you thinking?" I asked worriedly.
"Well...I don't deserve you..." She said before crying again.
"Baby..." I cooed. "If anything...I don't deserve you."
She stopped crying and looked up at me.
"Stop. You are the most caring and sweetest guy I have ever met and you care for me and protect me so much. And I just feel like I have nothing to give you in return. I'm nothing special...and frankly I don't know how I ended up dating an amazing guy."
"You're dating me because we are meant to be together. You're an amazing girl and I hate that you don't realize it. And putting up with me and all the shit that comes with me is enough to let me know that you're a strong and very brave girl. And I love you." I said, tears forming in my eyes.
She giggled before she pulled me on top of her on the bed and brought a hand to my face.
"I love you." She said, pulling my face in so our lips met.
I rolled off of her and lied beside her. I smiled when she cuddled into me and I wrapped my arm around her. It wasn't long before she fell asleep in my arms.
