Juvian was a centurion in the 17th roman legion, and he was proud of it. He was 23 and had grown up in Rome. His father was a senator and his mother was an actress. His father had hired several private instructors to train him in combat and military tactics. Juvian had quickly risen through the ranks, and had been placed in charge of 100 men (a cohort) and charged with defending the Roman Empire from the germanic tribes.
When our story begins Rome has suffered a series of defeats at the hands of a band of ostragothic raiders.
Juvian's father had assigned him to the 17th legion . They're mission was to stop the ostragoths and keep the Empire from losing any more territory in Gaul(modern day France/Germany).
