Kageyama had been trying to ignore it and man was it hard. Over Hinata and his time being friends Kageyama started to feel something else. He always knew that they weren't just friends though. There was more to it, like a link between them but the thing was Kageyama started feeling feelings towards Hinata.
He didn't really know when it started, last week or two maybe? But every time he saw Hinata smile or laugh because of him he felt warm and fuzzy. And when Hinata was on top of him when he had slept over the last time, he was terrified how obvious it was that he thought Hinata was going to do something else instead of tickle him mercilessly.
It was frustrating, really. Because of this he started to become more distant of Hinata, afraid his feelings would ruin their friendship he cherished so deeply. It wasn't the best plan though because Hinata would end up calling him asking if everything was okay. Kageyama would yell at him that everything was fine and hang up.
He also used the poor excuse that he was busy with work. Which was half truth and half false. Kageyama did have work but not on the weekends of course, but he would say that he did just to get Hinata off his case. Hinata knew something was up though, he wasn't that stupid after all.
They still hung out but not as much. Kageyama also thought this would just be good for both of them. Absence makes the heart grow fonder... Right? Although when he was away from Hinata they would get the worst nightmares but that was besides the point. Kageyama could not let Hinata know about his feelings.
Kageyama just had to swallow up his feelings. He was used to doing that anyway. Ever since he was little, just letting his head fill up with his emotions and pouring out when no one was around. He was taught from a young age to just keep quiet and grin and bear it. Kageyama supposes that's the reason why he's so emotionally detached.
Kageyama pinched the bridge of his nose. He had a terrible headache. He thought his head was actually pounding but it was his door. Kageyama walked to the door slowly and opened it. There he was. Hinata, smiling his usual smile, eyes crinkling and cheeks rising. He was bouncing on his heels and his hair bounced along as well. "What." Kageyama stated flatly. Hinata's smile faltered and sighed "Kageyama what's wrong?" Kageyama looked at him with confusion "Nothing is wrong." He snapped back.
Kageyama was about to slam the door but Hinata slid his body between the door frame. "I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong!" He shouted. Kageyama growled a bit, why couldn't he just go? Why couldn't he see that Kageyama had a crush on him and didn't know what to do about it. "I told you nothing is wrong so fuck off!" Hinata seemed hurt by this and Kageyama winced. But Hinata was still there.
"You can tell me anything! I know we've only have known each other for awhile but-" Kageyama cut him off with a harsh "You're fucking annoying so just leave! I don't need to be with you every second!? Get a hint jeez!" Hinata slid out from the doorway and stared at Kageyama. "What." There it was, Hinata's deep, serious stare. The stare that Kageyama couldn't believe could come from a person as happy as he was.
There was a silent tension. "Fuck I'm- I'm sorry- I-" what was there to say really. Hinata then let out a scream and rushed at him. He was small but pretty strong, Kageyama was pushed back a bit. "You don't fucking get it do you!?" Hinata roared. He started to cling to Kageyama and hit him. Kageyama pushed him off and he fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Kageyama was annoyed now "What don't I fucking get!?" Hinata looked up and him and rushed at him again. Wrapping his arms around Kageyama's waist. "I need you! You-You fucking idiot!" Kageyama grabbed Hinata again and pushed him into his couch. "You need me!?" Kageyama questioned. Hinata jumped up and yelled "You need me too!"
Kageyama glowered at him "I don't need someone as pathetic as you! I didn't need you before!" this was all a lie though. He really did need Hinata but he sucked at everything and was ruining this friendship he wanted to last. Hinata rushed at him one last time before Kageyama sung his arm and punched Hinata right in the nose.
Kageyama froze. Everything slowed down around him. The way Hinata's head turned. The yell Hinata made. The blood that dripped from Hinata's nose. Hinata Hinata Hinata. Kageyama panicked and before he could run off and get a rag Hinata was already running off.
Kageyama stood in the hallway of the apartments while he saw Hinata run off. He started to cry. He stood there and cried but he wiped his tears and went inside. He cleaned up the blood and sat on the floor. It happened all so quickly but all so slowly. The punch went slow. Hinata leaving went fast. Very fast.
It has been a week since they had talked, and even seen each other. Kageyama was in pain and so was Hinata. He didn't want it to end this way but it did. Kageyama didn't know what to expect, he never really had long lasting friends so why did this hurt so much? Because he had a fucking crush on the stupid guy. Here's a tip: don't punch your crush in the face, especially if you guys were friends as well. Too late for Kageyama.
Kageyama just wandered about his house and was more grumpy than usual at work. He wanted to go back in time but that was impossible. Now in his nightmares Hinata wasn't his friend, they didn't even know each other but he just always had the misfortune to see him die.
Kageyama couldn't stand this and he wasn't going to. But he couldn't just go to Hinata's and be like "Oh hey sorry for punching you and calling you those horrible names, wanna be friends again?" Kageyama sighed as he sat on his couch. He got out his phone and decided to call the only person that would know what to do. His other only friend, Yachi. Maybe she'd know what to do, they'd been friends for a long time and she was good at supporting him.
He hadn't really talked to her ever since he moved out of his hometown but she would understand.
